What color rug for the kids room?

What color should I get for the kids’s room? I didn’t want to have to do gray and wanted something light. Should I go dark? Like navy blue? What are your thoughts? (Sorry for the messy room, my boys can be messy and they didn’t clean their room before they sent me this picture while I’m out of town)

Why do they need a rug ? Nice space the drapes have to go .

They like having a rug in their own. They previously had one and they bought another one.

    What color drapes?

They bought another one ??? Maybe blue/ gray not tied up if they must have drapes at all. I think if they go shopping on theor own it seems then let them decide what rug , sorry i am a bit confused as to what you are wanting.

Seems like navy would work, for the curtains also. The curtains should go to the floor and not cover much of the window when open. It looks like a pretty large room, so I doubt a standard area rug will work. Look at remnants at a carpet store. They can be flexible sizes and have the edges bound for a finished look.

Sorry I meant they like having a rug and had one previously. I purchased the old one and I want to purchase another.

@Kandrewspa I can get some navy curtains.
Should it go to the even with the bed against the wall? I also move the curtains so they are in the outside of the window. It’s that way because the bunk bed was there so it was a bit difficult.

The room is 12x12. I was going get something like a 6x9 or 8x10

I see a bit more info to help so thanks. How old are these kids ? I ask because the need for a rug is dependant on the reason for one at all. I do small rugs beside beds for feet but rarely do large rugs where most is under the bed . But little kids like to play on the floor so a simple rug works well. I think an 8x10 will be mostly 1/2 on 1/2 off from under the beds so IMO one that just fits the floor where no furniture is so custom cut and finished maybe is the answer

Anything with blacks, blues, grays, tans, even some red.

This is just an example of placement. I’d want it large enough to be anchored by furniture, so it doesn’t move around, and to be underfoot getting out of bed:

If you look on Rugs USA, Rugs Direct, Incredible Rugs and Decor, CB2, Crate & Barrel, etc, you can view the rugs in the room as I show above. That one is at Rugs Direct <— link.

Lots of sites sell the same rugs, so shop around for prices, or you might be able to find something locally you can try.

With the bed leaning against the wall a roman shade would work better than side curtains. A blue rug would also complement the decor.

I really like the blue that the both of you have shown. I was so worried about the room appearing too dark. The lighting isn’t that great in this room. I have a daylight bulb in there and I feel like with the gray it’s just so gloomy.

I'd be tempted to get a nice neutral broadloom rug that covers a lot of the floor and just have them bind it (it will likely wear super well and not be expensive) - we did this for my son's room years and years ago and it still looks brand new

A rug can have such a big influence and cozy up a room. Suggest looking for a rug with a more youthful/casual feel and if interested, trunks at end of bed could be useful and consider a new window treatment.

I was thinking a rug with a pattern would make the room look busy covering as a pattern and the pictures above the bed also have a lot of color to

A grayish blue. I would not go dark as every piece of lint will show,

@Jilly's suggestion has a lot of pattern and it looks great. Don't worry about too much pattern. Their bedding is a subtle pattern. The room can take it.

Add more lighting and brighter bulbs to take the gloom off of the grey. That will do way more than any color will to lighten things up in there.

Thank you @Kendrah and @eld. Very true about the dark rug. I like the shade similar to denim.

I also wondered if something like this would look good?? Too busy?

I don’t think that rug is busy, but is a bit drab for a boys’ bedroom. Suggest a more casual/youthful design.
