No. You bought oak and this is what oak looks like. Rift sawn and quarter sawn would still have lines, just different than these. If you didn't want much grain you should have chosen maple or cherry (probably others as well).

If the table is finished, you need to identify the finish. You may be able to lightly sand and add to that finish. Or you may need to sand down to bare wood. The open grain can be filled with a light opaque stain like a paint almost. Ceruse. Then you can sand and apply a matte clear finish. Water ploy from Ciranova or General Finish.

Certain things should not be bought online without seeing them in person first, to judge the quality of that manufacturer.

Contact a reputable furniture refinisher please. I can see the streaks.

See if there is a Furniture Medic franchise in your area. When we moved with a relocation package, one of our furniture pieces was slightly damaged and insurance used this company to fix it.

Can you not return the table? Seems crazy to have to have someone fix a brand new table.

Do you mean the light colored areas kind of evenly spaced over the top, or the dark grain bits? I would watch a few furniture upcycling/refinishing videos where the poster explains what they are doing and the products used and then I'd sand and refinish the top myself. It's not rocket science but you have to be particular and careful to do it right. I like Flipped by Abby, Build it by Becker and Transcend Furniture Gallery for their explanations of what they are doing as they work.

If you don’t like it, return it. Something else, with a “smoother grain” look will make you happier.m
