Looking for Ideas to Modernise Our Home's Exterior.

We’re looking to give the front of our house a more modern look, but full rendering isn’t an option. I’m drawn to the idea of using cladding or paint to refresh the facade, and I especially like the thought of incorporating anthracite accents—perhaps above the garage and on the upper half of the house.

As well as updating the overall appearance, we’d like to break up the uniform brickwork and add some texture and contrast. We’re not planning to replace the windows, so we’re exploring other ways to bring in colour and impact—possibly painting sections of the brick (thinking dark grey), adding cladding in key areas, or painting the window frames to match the guttering and garage doors for a more cohesive look.

We’re also considering updating the guttering and downpipes to black for a sharper finish.

That said, I’m struggling to visualise how this could work, especially since the garage juts out from the centre of the house—and being on a corner plot adds another layer of complexity.

If you’ve seen similar projects or have suggestions on how to modernise a home like this, I’d love to see examples or hear your ideas!

You have a lot going on in a small space. I would not add texture or contrast to clutter up the space. I would paint the garage door. If you don't like the downspout on the corner, plant a tall, narrow tree, but not too close to the house --- check the mature height and width of whatever you plant.

If you bought an SUV you're just not going to be able to turn it into anything that looks like a sports car on a budget. As the old song says, "If you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you're with."

It doesn't look like there is a walkway from the driveway to the door. It's just grass? The little tree there is out of place. So add some hardscaping and landscaping. No painting necessary. The picture below is larger and more elaborate than is right for your space, but just to give you an idea of what I'm thinking of . . .

No accents. Paint the downspouts bronze or dark brown so they don’t distract from the brick. Put in landscaping.

The white needs to go and IMO dark is the choice and as Lyn showed the best if a bit of modern is the plan That house would need huge work to really make it modern .Landscping is a must IMO and a walkway from the garge and maybe evven from the street to taht door if that is the actual entry door used all the time

Please leave the brick alone. It looks fantastic. I would paint all the trim, a darker color. The Iron Ore mentioned above would be a good choice

I just use Microsoft's Paint; nothing fancy. Cut/paste and draw.

IMO I like your home as is. I can understand you feel there is too much brick but at least the brick is broken up by the massing as well as the windows and bays. Will recommend that you replace the existing garage door with one that has lites (windows) in it. Nothing relieves that flat and dull appearance of a fascade as a garage door with windows.
