DIY Design Dilemma Flooring

How to fix stairs with inlaid carpet?

We inherited these stairs with inlaid carpet. The carpet has to go. Any advice on what to do? Should we try to work with it and just replace the carpet? Is it possible to go with another option without replacing the entire staircase? It’s a split level home. First photo shows upper level, with the carpet removed from the top step.

Is the riser cut, also? If not I would replace the treads.

Fill in the cut tread to level the tread out and add a wider runner it's too narrow for this size stair.
