I'll likely be bringing a few tomatoes and possibly a few (very baby) tomatillos... got started really late this year. I've also got thornless blackberries that I'll try to dig up and bring...

Oladon, how big do the blackberry bushes get?

Well it's a rough start this spring. About a month ago I started 6 varieties of tomatoes. 5 sprouted but one did not. My seedlings got to about 3 inches tall and just stopped growing! They will not put on a second set of leaves.

So I guess what I'm saying is: will someone set aside a couple of tomato plants for me please?

It doesn't seem like we do many 'dibs' like we used to. I'll be trying to use my picks for eggplants, as mine didn't sprout at all! My red bee balm that I got last year is a no show also!

    ...bummer!

I would be happy to set aside anything have if anyone is interested.

    Thanks,

    Cat

Hey Cat, I hear you about this year being a bit rougher than normal. I finally finished transplanting the tomato babies to larger pots, so I know what I'll be bringing to the swap. With all this cold(er) weather lately, I haven't dug up any perennials to share. If things improve, I'll see what I can find.

    Plants to swap:

Tomatoes - (some only have a few)

Cherokee Purple - dk. purple beefsteak, 6-16 oz.

Dark Queen - purple bi-color beefsteak, 10+ oz.

Eva Purple Ball - pink 4-8 oz.

Marizol Purple - dark pink 8-16 oz.

Miss Scarlet in the Kitchen with a Knife - red heart

Soldacki - pink beefsteak, 10-18 oz.

Sungold - sweet, tart orange cherries

(There may be 1 or two others if they mature by swap time)

    Green tomatillos

    Purple tomatillos

    Gypsy broccoli

My eggplants didn't sprout at all this year, either!

Jerry, the blackberry patch I have is about... 5' in diameter all around, probably? The canes are longer but they bend over and kinda sprawl. I completely neglect it (I _try_ to prune it twice a year like you're supposed to, but don't ask how many years I've missed...), so dunno if it could be bigger if it were loved more.

Catnohat - I have red bee balm for you

Jerry - could you please save 1 Classic Beefsteak? it sounds huge! TY

I'll be there. I'm not sure if I need to message tomatoz1, gjcore, or neither since the location and time has been posted.

I have eggplant to bring. They got sunburned during early hardening off, so the bottom leaves look rough. I'll bring at least one each of Galine, Listada di Gandia, Rosa Bianca, Rosita and Ukrainian Beauty. No dibbs on these.

Tomatoes got up-potted recently and I've just started hardening off, so I'll need to see how they do before posting types.

If there's any interest, I can pot up some common mint (should be kept in a pot or it'll take over), Chokecherry seedlings, a Hackberry seedling, a currant seedling and a common crabapple seedling if anyone wants dibbs on these.

I posted the date, time and place in the Spring Swap 2025 when arborwolf started the query. Here's the info from that post.

Saturday, May 10 is on my calendar to host a swap 11am-1pm. There will be a birthday celebration 2pm inside the hall, but I doubt there will be any problem. We will enjoy the warm weather outside for the most part.

Wherever you want to share your plants, the swap(s) are a great time to meet with fellow gardeners.

Any interest in ginkgo tree saplings? We also have a volunteer tree that I dug up about a month ago looks like a spruce.

I would love a ginkgo and and a spruce. Bring them and I'll happily pick them!

treebarb, guessing it's too late for mint but if you happen to have time, I'd love some!

Great swap everyone! Thanks for bringing such fabulous plants.

    Tomatoz, Thanks for hosting!

For those who got my purple salvia, here is a picture of it last year. It was a much more solid color when it got full sun and this tree was smaller. If you cut it before it goes to seed you get a second round of blooms and can contain the seeds more. If you let it go to seed it will spread to fill in the area. It hasn't traveled to the other beds so that is good but it does travel to the lawn.

It was a great swap. Tomatoz1 and hubby, thanks for hosting! It's a perfect location for a swap, the shade was appreciated. Thanks for the tour, what a wonderful garden spot you have! It was so good to catch up with everyone and see some new faces! I'm scoping out planting spots for the new treasures. Thanks, all!

If anyone wants more strawberries we need to dig out at least another 2 trays worth to fit in the new veggies. Send me a direct message and we can set up a time. They would be freshly dug out but not potted up so would need to be transplanted right away.

Loved seeing you all yesterday, and excited to see/hear how everyone's garden grows this year!

Thanks everyone for another great swap. It was nice seeing you all again. Tomorrow will be a fabulous day in the garden!

Yes it was good to see the fellow gardeners. Hope everyone's new plants are doing well. I've got some stuff planted out but the majority I crowded under the lights with a fan blowing on them to get them ready for the great outdoors.

I missed the swap, I hear someone came from redit Denver group. does anyone have a link to that by chance? I'm getting rid of red raspberry in one location. And if anyone has free time I trade you iris galore :) i'm reducing my irises beds, I beat botanic gardens when it comes to varieties

  • last month

I also missed the swap and am always in the market for new iris. If you still have some to spare, I would be interested. Send me a message if you still have any.
