Need help deciding on dining room table & chairs

I like this table, but having trouble with my decision. It is distressed cherry wood in espresso finish. The floor in my dining room is oak. Will this look ok with my floor? The oak floor is medium color as you can see in the picture. I also need suggestions on what kind of chairs will go with this. It is a 54 inch round with one 12 inch leaf. My dining room size is 13 by 11. I plan to keep no other furniture in this room. It will be used for casual dinners.

Yes it should look good with your floors, since you have some of those darker colors in the grain. These types of tables are very durable with the distressed finish. I have two similar, but slightly lighter colored tables. The kitchen table has wood chairs with a leather seat and the dining room table has fully upholstered chairs.

You would need to show how you have decorated the adjoining spaces to suggest chairs for your house.

This is as close as I could get to replicating the finish on the floor.

What's wrong with the finish on the table itself? Looks damaged with brush marks. Here are pics of the same table off an auction site.

    Thank you chispa & BeverlyFLADeziner!

chispa - The overall style in my home I am going for is transitional + rustic. I like this distressed look, but have never used it. Good to hear from you that it is durable. I want a table that will take rough use and does not need covering, protecting all the time. For the chairs, I want the seat upholstered for comfort, the back plain (not upholstered), size not too big or small, but should make good use of the table size to fit 6-8 chairs in comfort.

BeverlyFLADeziner - Do you see the table finish damaged? I have not seen the table in person. Is there anything I should look for specifically? The way the table looks is what I thought a rustic distressed table should look like, a worn in table. Any tips from you will be helpful. Thanks

Perhaps the table you are interested in is not the Stickley I posted. That could account for the distressed finish. I would not assume your table is a durable finish. No dishes without placemats for sure.

Why aren't you purchasing the table with the dining chairs that appear to be around the table?? It's not going to be easy finding chairs in a finish that matches or complements this table.

The finish on the Stickley table I posted is as smooth as glass.

I'd choose a chair like this for that table

The whole point of the distressed tables is not to have a finish "as smooth as glass"!

You should still use place mats, specially for any hot serving dishes.

Do you know what the finish is on that table?

One of mine has a wax finish and the other some type of "varnish". The wax one has been used as a formal dining room table for the last 25 years and the varnished one used as a kitchen table for 13 years, with most of those years having tweens/teens doing homework on that table.

The shape of this table seems so classic to me, I'd go for more of a long rectangle for a rustic read, and to fit that many people in that size space.

Of course the table will work in your room with the oak floor--it's about as classic a look as you can get!

And the style is such that lots of chairs would go with it, depends on the look you want. The wood does not need to match--you could use painted chairs or another wood species.

What style is the rest of your house, and what style and feel do you want in the dining room?

You can find amazing vintage chairs on 1st Dibs. Pick your style and price, and the quality is way better than you can get new these days.

Your distressed cherry table in an espresso finish can look beautiful with your medium oak floors! The contrast between the darker table and the lighter floor can add nice depth and warmth to the room. For chairs, I’d suggest something lighter to balance the dark table—maybe upholstered chairs in a neutral fabric like beige, cream, or light gray. You could also mix in wood chairs with a lighter or natural finish for a casual, welcoming vibe. Keeping the space simple with just the table and chairs sounds perfect for casual dinners and easy flow in your 13x11 room.

I wonder if she ever found chairs???

I did get the table. I like it a lot! Now looking for chairs. I am thinking of a lighter wood (since the table is quite dark), and cream or off white fabric. I am not confident buying online. I need to test it, try it in person for size & comfort. I like the style suggested by Lyn Nielson

I found two at Costco.com that I am considering. Costco's return policy is helpful too.

The distressed cherry in espresso can look great with medium oak floors—contrast can add warmth and depth if the tones complement each other. Consider chairs with lighter or neutral fabric to balance the darker table, maybe with black or espresso wood legs. Ladder-back or upholstered chairs would suit casual dining well. Since the room is 13x11 and this is your only furniture, the 54-inch round with leaf is a nice fit—spacious but still cozy and inviting.
