Great room with large fireplace and possible multiple seating areas

After 5 years I still don't have any idea on furniture layout that I absolutely LOVE. Furniture in the pictures are irrelevant as I am willing to change furniture. Just a few more additional things to note. We love to entertain so plenty of seating is necessary. The fireplace is very large and there is a hearth at seat height which could provide additional seating for short periods. Currently the TV is above the fireplace but willing to change location on that as well. Also, a desk or office area could be considered but we currently have an office area in our basement. Whatever is near the carport door seems to be a catchall for coats, purses, mail and other things. I am attaching a hand-drawn layout as well as pictures with numbers. On the drawing I added arrows to show from where and the direction the pictures were taken. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How many people do you need seating for on a daily basis?

How many do you need seating for when you entertain?

When you entertain is the TV on?

Where do you eat when you entertain and do you do sit down, plates on laps?

Does anyone actually use the desk in picture #2?

What do you think of making area #5 a TV den area, and then have all of your seating for enteratining be in the larger area around the fireplace?

I would absolutely move the TV from the fireplace. It is much too high.

You say whatever is near the carport door is a catch-all - do you mean coats and other things are thrown on the peninsula?

Does anyone ever enter your front door? Who, when?

Kendrah, thanks for the questions! On a daily basis we need seating for just 3 people. When we entertain we usually have 10-12 people and have a table that will accomodate that many or depending on food being served we can sit anywhere. The desk in picture 2 is not used and will not be there as of next week. Yes, the catchall is the peninsula or the table whatever furniture that is in that area. Currently, everyone enters through the carport door but that is another thing that is changing in the next few weeks as we update and change things on the exterior of the house as well so any guests will begin to use that and only the three of us will use the carport door.

Agree - TV must go. TV area/extra seating in the alcove. Low profile sofa facing the fireplace, add armchairs, artwork on the sides of the fireplace. Rugs to ground the living and dining spaces and add color and softness, add art, lighting. The fan overwhelms. Can you ditch it?

You'll want the seating around the fireplace to be arranged in some type of "U" formation See plans and photos. The combination of sofas and chairs is somewhat interchangeable.

More inspiration photos. The number of seats matters, but you have options on what type of seats (couches? Chairs? Benches?)
These are all nicely done, with a fireplace as a focus.

When you have guests is it for watching sports on tv? Would the alcove be large enough?
