no clue how to decorate this outdoor space

Hi, we just got ride of grass and had this gravel/concrete squares out in. I wanted to add a few colorful planters with bright flowers. Should I add some furniture, small bistro set? Thinking about planters /lights on fence. The space is about 7ft x 40 ft. Will spend whatever to make it look nice. Thanks!

You have a very beautiful space. It seems that pots of colorful flowers, and comfy chairs would be perfect. I have never had a pool, but I am curious about the gravel. Is there a concern that it will find its way into the pool?

Usually that sort of design is used for a walkway, not a patio space, so I'm not entirely sure why you chose that.

First off I would get gravel cement/glue so that stuff doesn't move. Especially if you want to put furniture on it. I can see it going everywhere.

It doesn't look wide enough for a bistro set. The loungers look crowded in. If you have somewhere else to put chairs (the end of the pool you're not showing, maybe?) I would leave this space open with some planters and some hanging baskets on the fence.

Yes, downlights and pots on the three fenceposts. The two lounge chairs are the only seating needed are perfect for this area (private)...center them maybe.

Solar ones are available. Black fixtures and planters are very nice with the gravel and the other decor. Fill the urns to the brim with more glass to be seen better. Aqua is your accent color.

Sketch to show location of downlights:

The fence would look fantastic in dark Charcoal.

Make sure any seating you use has left standing and walking room to the pool as 7' is not very wide and last you need is someone getting up and losing their balance and falling into the pool.

It's easier to plant things in the ground. Your space is crying out for greenery, I'd plant up the fence line. I'd probably pick vines, but you could do perennials or grasses. I would not do a few pots of flowers in a space that needs a TON more greenery.

If doing pots - do large-scaled ones, easier to keep watered and fewer, larger pots look nicer than lots of little ones scattered around

I would want privacy and greenery.

Are those urns firepits with the glass rock?

If so, have to move the flowers. . . :)

I would consider having a tilted color umbrella stand at each end placed between 2 chairs with a small side table. May give more privacy from that looming home behind the fence. A couple tall potted tropical plants. Beautiful yard!

I would have put artificial grass out there and a few colorful planters. Lots of hard surfaces in that area.

Is anyone actually going to sit there? Don't waste money on furniture no one will use and you will have to clean.

Since you have no budget limit, I'd remove the gravel and concrete squares. They are not at the finish level of your pool and surrounding space. They are purely visual and don't function for a patio. Match the material and level of the flooring you've already got. Then arrange furniture and landscaping over the entire space.

Will suggest using the space now covered with gravel and pavers for plating that will screen the neightbor's view of your backyard.

    Tough spot.

I agree with dan’s comments above: the pavers/stone were an ill choice. And I think the change in surface level from the rest of the area is a real concern around a swimming pool.

Since cost is not an issue I’d rip it all out and focus on planting in the ground as well as creating some privacy from prying eyes next door. Your fence is ok but not nearly tall enough.
