Leave white or add color

last year

This home was built in the 30’s in Oklahoma. Should I leave it white and color the front door? Or give it a new look? I’m also considering replacing the metal porch poles with wooden post. I always enjoy everyone’s ideas, let me know what you think.

It appears to be cream currently. White is being done to death and your house isn't special enough to compete with all the others. That said, it's a nice house with symmetry, so a darker color with white trim would emphasize its best points.

The edge between the house roof and the porch roof is odd, making me think it's not original. I'd consider removing or replacing it, so I wouldn't replace the columns. You do need more greenery, so I'd plant a flowering climber at the base of each column, the current metalwork is a great support. With a rose on each side and a fresh paint job, your house will have a ton of cottagey charm.

I would paint the trim a color and around the windows. It all blends together right now. I would not paint the house white, but, maybe a cream color would look good. I can also see yellow on your house, even though yellow houses are not a favorite of mine.

Your home is the perfect home to do something fun. So much potential.

White trim with an addition of a trim piece at the bottom of the porch overhang and either one or two colors that you love as the main house colors.

Add some nice plants in front and update the walkway and you could have something really special.

The reason I suggested a trim board is based on my own experience adding one over my garage. Little detail that really improved the look. Before and after below.

I always choose non white for everything including trim. More subtle complex possibilities. You have the brown of the foundation. I'd replace the green steps with much wider steps made from tan and brown pavers. And use matching pavers for a path to your drive. Which you can decide what you want to then do with the drive. This will make the house feel current. dan1888 Love the idea with the pavers. I also like the colors choices. Would you suggest the iron ore for the house color and one of the other colors for the trim and around the windows? This house has been in our family for years. I owned it, then my sister. She recently passed away and it was inherited back to me. I want to fix it up and rent it.

I mis-read it. It’s the lighter brown for the house and the darker for the trim and windows. Very nice. I like it.
