    I would do beadboard

I'd do plain white. Or, just leave it painted as-is. The last thing you need is one more "something" -- the floor is the star, it doesn't need any showing supporting players.

You can visit tile stores and bring home samples to view in your space.

i wouldnt do white ......I like these neutrals...just a shade or two from white...closer to the cream in the floor and to work harmoniously with the wood elements that are part of your space. you have the under cab lighting so pick a rich neutral..not complicated or fussy in shape but something that shows yet nicely blends in. Samples brought in are the next task.

How much actual backsplash do you have? Photos from more angles would help. The photo you posted looks distorted--the floor is more prominent than it probably looks in real life.

Delft tiles are charming--white with some blue in them. But of course white is always safe.

I really like the delft tiles, too. Thanks for that suggestion. I am having trouble with the Houzz site. I can't comment from my phone and I can't add more photos from my Desktop. Probably just me. I will keep trying.

And that floor looks distorted in EVERY photo I take of it. It is not in real life but boy the photos can play with your mind.

I like your floor. What type of flooring is that?

Please note we are still in construction phase. We have not installed the kick plates or the crown molding. I have samples of Dal tiles and love some of the colours. I would use them sparingly because I agree with the comment of the floor being the star. It really is striking in the space. I called the cupboards white but they are really "Feta" an off white.

The floor is Marmoleum from Forbo. I live in Saskatoon, SK, Canada and a local supplier was able to get them. They told me they had never sold them to anyone before. It was labour intensive to plan. We cut out the old sub floor and installed new to accomodate them.

Maybe an embossed tile in a shade that complements the cupboards, creating a vintage, subtle feel.

You have made a lovely start! The kitchen has an aura reminiscent of "vintage farm" without being old fashioned.
I would consider whitish backsplash, with a decorative element above the range, using the same blue as the floor tiles.
The marmoleum is very long lasting,so I would choose an enduring theme.
Considering your location, you may wish to look at farm/agricultural signage...I had a large pristine Tweddle Chicks sign for years.Bright yellow, blue and red graphics that took the eye.Alas a collector gave me $350 and I let it go.The blue was the exact shade of your tiles.
Take your time to find the right piece!

Yes, that is a great link to backsplashes, but I wouldn't go with a pale blue. I'd go with cobalt to stand up to your floor.

Diana Bier, definitely agree. I just became mesmerized by the pics on that link.

I think the backsplash could use a pop of color to balance out all that "feta" white of the cabinets and to hook-up with the bold blue on the floor. I was thinking maybe a brickish color or red, maybe a pattern with some of blue (or similar). Alternatively, I think mute the backsplash to match the cabinets (like a white tile that has shade variation) and then add some color-splashy curtains and art to tie things together.

I forgot about this dilemma--I wonder what the outcome was?? Laurel--did you make a decision? Would love to see photos!

Thank you all for your comments. We are finishing up the backsplash now and I will post pictures when it is done. This has taken awhile but life interrupted. I picked out the tile after trying really hard to get the vintage 4 X 4 tiles with a yellow/gold pencil line in the mix to work. I just felt a need for more colour. So we have gone with a lovely gold brick tile in the traditional brick layout. The decision is made and they are almost all on the wall and there is no going back. The colour is a great match for the original hardwood floors in this 1960s home. My only worry (but it is too late now) is that I have squares on the floor and rectangles on the wall. When I post pictures (soon I promise) please be nice. I feel tender with this project. On the up side, I really wanted more colour and this is satisfying that itch for sure.

I love color!!! I also don’t think squares on the floor and rectangles on the backsplash is a problem. Looking forward to seeing the finished result!
