How to make house interior with cherry/ oak wood floors look modern?

Hello,

I am in the process of buying this apartment & would like to give it a more modern feel without any big renovations/ modernizations. But I cant think of a good color scheme/ style for the interior? Any recommendations on the type of rug/ accessories/ paint that could help with updating the feel. I do not want to replace the credenza and the dining table since they are good quality but also I want to give them a spruce up if I can figure out how!

TIA.

    The purchase includes the furniture?

The rugs don't really coordinate well so remove the one from the dining room. Remove the cushions off the dining chairs. Paint the credenza. Remove all the decor and art.

To make it more modern, you’re going to have to replace some of what’s there.

I’d start with the rugs. They are very oriental and traditional. I’d get rid of em and find some new more modern ones.

For the credenza , I’d start by replacing the hardware.

Dining table is workable. Borderline workable. But the chairs got to go :)

Are you open to a new light fixture too?
Lighting is like jewelry to me. Very important.

    There’s lots of potential here…

I think you could do something with the big credenza. Paint it a dark color; put the t v over top; use all the interior space for storage in order for the room to look sleeker. See the table and chairs and replace with modern design.

You are not keeping anything else, so it will give you chance to make the apartment your own.

If you want rugs, one thing you can do is buy two of the same...

I would keep the LR rug and probably move the DR rug elsewhere. But persian rugs are completely at home in contemporary settings. I agree all the decor goes. I would replace the dining room chairs. Replace the ceiling fan with a plain white more industrial looking fan, if a fan is needed. The shelving unit looks built in, I would paint it to match the walls. I think the big credenza is great and I wouldn't touch it even if you got a contemporary dining table

While I get all these suggestions but whatever you do buy furniture for comfort as well. I have a set of black leather furniture that is comfortable so I am completely ok with it. I would encourage you to go with whatever your amount for spending is and build from there. But stick with furniture that you feel you are in an oasis with , not something that just looks pretty. Its home space is your safe haven . I have had some many designs that have been amazing yet nothing I could really kick back in and feel physicaly comfortable in.

Cover the radiator, new chandelier, new window treatment, new dining chairs, new accessories.

I also suggest you turn the chairs clockwise.

I love that Credenza as-is. I'd center it on the wall. Does that table have any leaves? I'd make it oval if possible. A more modern chandelier over the table would really add a lot along with updated rugs. I absolutely love Rifle Paper Company prints whether on rugs or wall paper. It's like a modern take on oriental rugs, or at least that is how I describe it. Updated dining chairs are a must. I'd put a larger TV on a larger stand on the couch wall and have the back of the couch face the dining table with throw pillow that go with your new color scheme. Walls can be a color found in your new rugs.
