You have a good layout for the current kitchen size, and from the one picture here, it doesn't look like you have a lot of room to expand. So keep the current appliance layout.

• Take cabinets up to the ceiling. If you haven't done this already, run a vent through the top of the cabinets out to the window wall, so you can have exterior venting.
• Use a regular hood, put an under-counter microwave in your island.
• All drawers for the base cabinets. Have an island drawer stack that is silverware and everyday dishes. You will enjoy unloading directly from the dishwasher over to that drawer stack.
• Use a counterdepth fridge. Have cabinets over the fridge that are just as deep. Use them for vertical storage of sheet pans, cooling racks, and platters.
• Replace the baker's rack and baskets in your dining area with a long buffet unit, and open shelves above. Get rid of as much of your cabinet-toppers as you can, and store the rest on the dining area open shelves.

Consider a 2 sided banquet bench with 3 chairs would visually open up the space as well.
