How is this fashion? ETA: In Cannes, you can show your waffle but

Maybe it just appeals to certain people? (If you have one of these in your closet I'm not criticizing).

Today's NYT fashion article: No titties in Cannes. Waffles do not seem to be banned however,

Same way this was in fashion back in the 60's . Remember these paper dresses?

I was thinking Andy Warhol, too. Not high fashion but some people would think it's fun.

Speaking of fashion I saw this hilarious video about moms searching for dresses to wear to their kids' graduations. So funny!

    Video link below:

    What to wear to graduation

    How waffle!

    😅

It's fashion for people who can afford to buy things they use or wear once or twice. Or people who collect clothing like Iris Apfel used to.

I had a co-worker who brought this out once a year,

The Eggo purse is $38. The rubber hen seems to average about the same. That's about two drinks and a tip in a lot of places, so I could see these as a novelty to use only occasionally. I wouldn't, but then again I know people who are still technically middle class who will spend a couple thousand dollars on a Louis Vuitton or Gucci bag.

And of course there was this, the $5750 Balenciaga coffee cup bag: And this is something that would rapidly go out of fashion as "last season's"

    I think it is cute.

Olychick - That video was hilarious!

DD sent me that same video! I identified!

The Eggo purse reminds me of a purse I had long ago. It was a clutch purse that looked like a folded magazine.

I don't even keep free logo t-shirts except for painting, gardening or cleaning.

Wildchild, I remember paper dresses! The material was like those dispoable wipes, i cant remember what they’re called. Wear the dress until it got dirty or smelled bad, then toss. The original fast fashion,

The Eggo purse reminds me of Eleven on Stranger Things.

I wish I had bought my sardine purse, which surprises me.

dedtired Mine had a turquoise background with a hot pink pink and yellow swirly print. Maybe some other colors too. It was a tent dress with an inverted front pleat and being paper it was pretty stiff and didn't drape well. Easy to hem, just cut to length.

I don't see it as very different from a purse covered with buckles and pieces of chain and zippers to nowhere in some sort of weird color. Ugly.

It's fun fashion! I remembered this thread while getting ready for work this afternoon and took a couple pictures of some of my earring collection.

This is a very small sampling. I have around 300 pairs I think as of now. While not as big a statement as an Eggo purse, I think its something fun to break up the boring of regular days sometimes....

Olychick, that video describes most of my dress shopping trips! Hilarious! Those two women are great and we could be friends.

I can totally see a younger person loving that Eggo bag - so many of these novelties are aimed at young people.

And high fashion has often involved cheeky pop culture icons.

@OutsidePlaying another of their videos popped up for me today, equally hilarious, so check out their other videos. I can’t ever figure out how to post them from my phone and I’m away from my compter today.

Fashion is weird, but the ultimate in a sort of capitalism - something is worth whatever someone else will pay for it.

The dress video was funny. Thanks Olychick 💜

Olychick, lol!! Especially the commander’s wives outfits! Thanks!

Oh Olychick, I want to be friends with these women! Kudos to them for putting themselves out there.

I wonder if a man baring his chest at Cannes will be subject to the 'no nipples' rule?

In a way, this is sort of the more casual/more accessible version of the Judith Leiber bags. This one is $6000. But this sort of thing is worn with otherwise "power clothes" like a couture gown.

I confess to wishing I had someone to buy one of these for:

I honestly think people want "ATTENTION" MORE than they want RESPECT. 😂

Laughing at someone...or laughing with them....matters not?

The lady in the videos is a HOOT! More Olychick...more!!!!! The kitten bag and a 4 year old girl....would be a Fabulous match! Me too....nooooooooooow...I wish I had a grand-daughter.

    There's this one:

Chanel 2014 Runway "shopping basket" minaudiere @ $99,000.

In two dozen peoples' carts on the sale site.

You used to be able to buy handbags made out of Caymen (tiny alligator) in Florida and I did see one made from an armadillo. People actually used them. Fashion is weird.

I enjoyed quirky when I was in high school. A tin of peanut butter similar to this one made its way into our household and I recycled it as a purse. I did make a fabric lining but it was very difficult to clear out the odor of peanutbutter.

Patriciae, I had an alligator purse (made of alligator hide, not shaped like an alligator) that I wish I had kept. Growing up in Georgia alligators were a Florida novelty; living in Florida they were a constant nightmare…. hate those things!

I have two straps for alligator belts, one black one brown, that were my dad's belts in the late 50s, one gold buckle and one sterling buckle, the rectangular sliding kind. we shortened the belts around 1980 so I could wear them and I had a 28-29 waist, so now I can't wear them, but I don't want to just dispose of them. And I have two buckles for belts that would have to be 1" wide, I don't even think they are 1-1/4".

Pal - My youngest is graduating from high school today. We’re giving him a monogramed sterling buckle and a brown alligator belt. The buckle actually won’t be monogramed until after graduation because the engraver passed away before he could complete the work, and we didn’t find out until we went to pick it up on Friday.

1 1/4“ is the most popular size, but 1” isn’t hard to find. My DH’s buckle is 1” and I have no trouble buying straps for him.
