I ususally like the treads and handrail to match the floor at the bottom of the staircase to keep things simple and looking well thought out . Since you are now changing all of this I would do the handrail to match the floor to keep things as simple as possible

I'm not a pro but the post has very sharp corners for something you're going to grip every day.

Right now the front door and the staircase go together so the door will be disparate once the new rails go in. Perhaps a new modern front door.

I agree with Patricia Colwell but will say that I do love an all metal railing and newel.
