what color should I paint my porch to go well with green house color

last month

I plan on painting my porch. I don't like the green, but I'm only able to paint the porch (not entire house). What look best? Any suggested color options I'm missing? before, and some simulated choices....

current:

some options (I'm I being too timid?)

All white with a color on the door you like. Yellow and purple both work well with the green. The grey makes no sense because it doesn’t relate to anything.

thank you. So paint the porch white/off-white, and maybe a twilight purple for the door?

    is this better?

I think it looks best the color of your house. I dont like the white at all, and the gray doesnt go well. It is part of the house, same color green with white window trim etc, just like the house. You can always get paint color matched to go with the house. The first picture you showed like it is now, looks much better than any with the odd color or white.

thank you. The entire first floor of the house is white, and the 2nd story is green, so it's two toned.

here's a better view of what it would look like from the side, showing the existing white on the first story.

One color for all of it. I dislike the two toned. Looks like the house was cut in half.

It does seem better to have porch the same color as the rest of the first story of the house. That purple door seems too harsh IMO. Something softer - maybe a warm yellow - not bright - would blend better. If you’re able to widen front planting bed & add a couple larger flowering shrubs in the side yard between the basement windows but not too close to house, it would add a lot to the curb view of house.

These porches need to stay the same as the house or it looks odd.

thank you. I agree that makes sense. I just don't like dark green and want to stay away from more green. I think I will go with the white porch, a softer blue/purple door color that doesn't clash so much with the green, and widen the front planting with violet, blue flowers and bushes along the side.

I would continue the white for the front. Mimic the white trim on the second floor windows for the four first level windows. I think it will make a big difference having the same trim.

Storm door....gone. It opens out, not good. The swing out covers the top step, as, I go to the top step to open it, but I have to step down to give the door room to swing. Invest in a storm proof door, which, obviously swings into the house.

Color for new front door...in a darker shade of the roof.

I suggest white for the exterior of your closed-in porch but an exterior porch would improve the look of your house as well provide a nice place to sit outdoors.

I like the green, but since you can’t paint the rest of the house to match, I’d pick white. I would do the door in white, yellow or maybe red.

If the lower side of the house is white like the picture shows, then if either carry that on around, especially if there is while on the right. OR, if just do full green and paint that white area in the lower side, green. You don't want a patch of white, so you either need to paint more white, or go over that patch with green.

thanks, I like that darker grey color for the door, and good idea about matching the trim below to what's above. It's just cheap storm windows on the porch, with no insulation, so I could make lots of improvements. Also, good idea to replace the outward opening storm door. I also appreciate the idea about adding a front porch (would be easier to add a patio with pavers out front at ground level).

If I walked by that green and white house, I'd think that the lower floor had just been primed and was waiting for the topcoat.

I think the only choice is white so as to connect the sides; otherwise your home will feel like a patchwork. Be sure to match up as close as possible; test a few and see how they look when dry. Suggest painting the door a bit darker green (in the same undertone as house).

If you want the door to stand out/feel welcoming, just add something vs painting another color.

Adding height/interest in the garden will add another visual layer, which will soften up the 1/2 color division.

so much terrific input! thanks everyone. A new front (porch) door colored as suggested, as well as a flower garden. I'm trying to do this all on a small budget and my own labor, so I'm only going to paint the porch (to match the white), add trim to the windows, change out for a greyish door that opens in, and plant more flowering plants in front and on side that grow vertically.

I really like the suggestions for a tonal door color, like a bit darker soft green, because a” pop of color” for door does not work as well with the chopped- up 2- color facade. And a new good storm door. Spend some time to find your color— start with the little paint chips to narrow down options, and invest a few $$ in ordering some bigger Samplize stick- on sample you can put up and see in varying daylight.

White to match your existing door.

I think your choices are restricted. At present, only white is a bit more suitable. Since you've decided to dye, why not dye everything? Change the houses to one color. What do you think?

my budget of money, time, and energy is limited + mild laziness. Someone said the old composite siding doesn't take paint well and I'd probably have to pressure wash first. As a DIY job, painting the whole house would require lots of ladder work. I still may paint the entire house some day, but willing to keep the green upper for now. I read on another forum that "seafoam green" similar to this was super popular color choice 100 years ago.

No one says you have to paint the entire house at once. Get a final plan in mind. That may very well include doing nothing to the upper part of the house. Paint the porch this summer. Next summer paint the lower west side, following summer, lower north side etc etc.

Further pictures or closer look has me wondering what is your end goal? If you want to pronounce that you have a porch then paint it's three sides white and the entire rest of the house green. If you want the home to look larger more stately then the porch would be the same as the house. I do not understand the white band on the sides of your home beyond the porch. That doesn't make sense to me. Green with white trim on the windows and soffits with a white porch and green door would look fabulous.

Darker green will go nice with it
