Source didn't mention date or location -- I'd imagine 1900 or thereabouts. Prb'ly in the Smokey Mountain region as it was largest in that area. Gotta be 15 ft or more in diameter...

L Clark, I don't know, but I THINK this was before the blight. I've seen other pre-blight pics of chestnuts, and in their very old age/size, they lose alot of the furrowed bark that they had earlier. If you look closely, you can see some remaining furrowed bark on the far left side of the trunk.
