Can I plant two small beauty bush suckers together

We planted a young beauty bush ( Kolkwitzia amabilis ) about three seasons ago. (Toronto, Canada). It has grown happily and rather rapidly in full sun and also blooms heavily. It has produced numerous suckers as well.

My husband suggested that we transplant two of those baby plants ( each is about 2 ft wide and about as tall ) together to a different location, so that they are bushier to begin with and make one fuller bush sooner. Our parent plant was very scraggly for the first year, until it started to produce many new shoots. Is planting together advisable with beauty bushes ?

I am concerned, because we had planted 5-6 lilac suckers together, and I suspect this is the reason they have not bloomed yet. Would the same principle apply to the beauty bush ?
