What do you use to store your sheet sets

last modified: 27 days ago

We own a lot of sheets. Almost all of them are white. Plain white. I hate going thru them to find sizes/types I need. I would like to store them in sets.

Do you do this? What products, if any, do you use?

ETA - we cannot store them on shelves because we repurposed our linen closets; they are stored in baskets

I don't use any products. I just pile them on a shelf in the linen closets. I don't have so many that I have any trouble finding what I need and they aren't all white so I know what goes in which room. I have a linen closet by the guest rooms and put those sheets there and a linen closet by the master bedroom and put those sheets there.

I have some plastic woven baskets in various other places for storage. Some of them are about the right size for a set of sheets - could be used for that and labeled. If you need to stack multiple then you'd probably want one of those containers with a lid which could also be labeled.

I keep looking at those book-like containers, but I've yet to purchase any because the dimensions don't really fit on my shelves efficiently. For now, I store each set of sheets in one of its matching pillowcases and designate specific shelves for each size.

I have quantities of woven cloth tape that I cut into lengths that will tie around a folded sheet and with folded pillowcases stacked on top. I write with a sharpie directly on the cloth tape : king, queen, full, or twin. Easy.

I fold mine and put inside one of the pillow cases that go with that set. The other case or cases are inside it also.

Mine are all white (alright) too. I make a bundle of two sheets and pillowcases and stack them on a shelf in the linen closet. It’s not rocket science.

Two guest rooms have some built-in drawers in the closets. I keep a change of sheets for those beds in those.

I have a walk-in linen closet that I probably don't use as efficiently as I should. Something about the size and styles of the shelf doors that isn't completely comfortable for me and I can't reach the top shelf without a step stool.

All my sheets all rooms are white or ivory. I divide sets by the larger sized pieces tissue paper, replacing as needed,

I bundle also. The top sheet is on the outside with the fitted sheet tucked iinto the final fold. The folded pillow cases can added into the bundle too. When you can’t sleep at night, there are more than a few YouTubes on this topic.

For no good reason but that it works for me, I have a stack of (alphabetcial!!)

    Fitted, Flat, Pillowcase

I am not a champion folder, but I do a reasonable job and it looks neat and orderly.

I have a shelf for Queen and a shelf for Twin.

I have probably 6 sets, and 3 are white. The white ones are each different, and I've been meaning to bring the set that has seen better days to the animal shelter where I volunteer.

We have 2 Queen beds ( ours, and a guest room) . I don't think we need so many sheets. I do have the space but I think when I cull the sheet set I won't replace it.

Like KSWL itie sets together, I use satin ribbon, cause it sparks joy. They get a “gift tag” labelled with size, I made those from twist ties and felt.

We have king, queen and twin beds My linen closet used to give me anxiety. I finally decided to put the sheet sets in clear plastic tubs by size and label the tubs. I do the same with blankets.

No bins, no ribbons. We have 1 King, 1 Queen and 1 Full at home.. The guest rooms have the sheets for that bed folded and stacked on a shelf in the closet. Our bedroom has a separate linen closet and we have 4 sets of king - folded neatly and stacked on 2 shelves so that it's easy to rotate as needed

At our other place we have king, queen and twin. Our sheets reside on shelves inside the walk-in closet. The 2 rooms with queen size beds have platforms beds with drawers underneath and we keep thenextra sheets in the drawers. The twins are in the linen closet on a designated shelf.

I fold each set to fit inside it's matching pillow case. All are stacked neatly in the closet. I am never searching or wondering. All the pieces are there with one grab.

This is only an issue at our beach place, where we have more beds of different sizes. I used to store all the sheets in the hall linen closet, and I labeled the front edge of the shelf ”queen, full, etc” and stacked the sheets accordingly. But it got messy. Now the sheets for each bedroom are stored in that bedroom’s closet. Way easier, unless DH is doing laundry because he has no clue what goes where.

I could never fold sheets neatly enough to fit inside pillowcase.

PS our main house has no linen closet at all. 😢😢😢

I use the top sheet like a book cover with the pillow cases and fitted sheet folded then 'wrapped' with the top sheet. In my linen closets the wrapped ends of the sheet sets are facing out, like books stacked on top of each other. Because the top sheets are always folded in thirds, it's easy to see the difference between our king and guest queen sets, but they are also on different shelves. Twin for DGD and crib for DGS are easy to spot, obvi.

We have all whire sheets too. At home they’re folded and stacked (fitted, pillow cases, flat) and stacked on labeled shelves (king, queen, twin) in the linen closet. At the lake they’re folded in tha same manner, but they go into heavy duty zippered bags that blankets and the like come in and are placed the bottom drawer of the dresser in that room.

We have 2 linen closets. Sheets are on shelves in linen closets. No labels, ties, etc. Easy, peasy. (Tina Marie)

Originally we had two (!) linen closets on the 2nd floor. One is now our upstairs laundry and one is now the bookshelf-lined entry to our MBR. That’s me, form over function, but I do love the way it looks and it makes the primary suite more “special” IMHO. There is a linen closet on the 3rd floor but that is devoted to towels.

So our linens cannot be stored on shelves. They are stored either in the large lidded wicker trunk in the 2nd floor hall, or in the integrated baskets under our PB platform twins on the 3rd floor. I like the ventilation, but people ruffle thru these and leave a mess and moreover I think they should be protected from dust. Oh and field mice (welcome to the country).

As for folding, not my jam. Our cleaning people usually wash and fold them. If I wash them myself, I leave them unfolded in the basket. When they come, I put them in the dryer. Then I tell them “oh hey, there are some clean sheets in the dryer that need to be folded.” hahaha

Anyway, I bought a set of 6 of these BTF. The cleaning people took them to clean, but they were returned in a box of things categorized as “unable to wash.” So I am trying to decide if I want to buy them again, hence the question.

I too have changed over to all white.

I just keep mine in separate closets from the twin and queen sizes.

It occurred to me I should have specified from the outset, we don't have linen closet space for them.

If you liked your system before, just buy the same or something like it. Individual bags that you can label would be great.

If you liked your system before

That is the thing, I never got a chance to try it. GW ate my first post and i left it out in my repost but I bought them just BTF.

I washed them to make sure they had a nice subtle smell, rather than factory smell, and they were over the tub air drying. The same day, the fire happened.

I don't have a ton of sheets but each bedroom has different sized beds. I keep the sheets for each in the corresponding bedroom's closet. Each bed has at least 2 sets of sheets. We do have a linen closet in our bedroom. I store the king sheets and towels we use daily there. Extra towels are kept in the guest bath vanity. The linen closet in our main hallway is now storing all the kitchen stuff I can't fit in kitchen cabinets.

We don’t have a linen closet, either, so we do the same as Czarinalex. The sheets are folded and sit on a closet shelf or in a dresser drawer in each bedroom. I have seen elastic bands you can buy to wrap around the sheets, and they’re labeled with bed size.

    @Bluebell66, I love those!

Do you have space in each bedroom for some kind of cute cabinet or bureau?

The sheets for our primary bedroom are in an antique cabinet in our ”workout room” next door because we don’t really have a spot for them in our room. But it is literally a few steps from our room.

I don’t have more than two sets of sheets for each bed, which simplifies things. I don’t see a need for more than that. I do have extra pillow cases and shams because I like to mix and match them.

Yes, all of the rooms have cabinets and closets. I just like to store sheets where they are now (ie centrally). I guess I can see storing them in the bags I bought in the room itself, because that would be neat and tidy.

I also ordered the bands, we will see!

I have too many sheets, and should cull. Part of it is that I bought 2 extra sets for each bed exclusively for renters, since I wanted to be certain that they were always 100% pristine.

@Bluebell66 those are great! Actually, I think my daughter and DIL would love them in their stockings at Christmas time. I even love them as a little house warming gift or part of a Bridal shower gift with a set of sheets Boom! Drop the 🎤! You just blew my mind with possibilities 😂

Bridal shower gift with a set of sheets

I think it is really mostly a problem when you have a lot of bedrooms and different size beds. One house I had K,Q,F and T!

Totally agree, maybe may not work for a Bridal shower gift, but as a gift for D and DIL definitely. Both of their homes have 4 bedrooms and different size mattresses.

I have a nice sized linen closet at the end of the hallway upstairs. I have shelves + use various organizers (mostly baskets) for items.

mtn - I have some large canvas storage bags similar to the ones you posted. I have one for all of the king size sheets and two for all of the queen sized ones. At the lake, I use totes to store all of the linens and towels - I sometimes have mice that find a way into the lake house over the winter (regardless of how hard we try to block all entrances - so, I have a cleaning company that comes and cleans/sanitizes everything at the beginning of lake season).

I am going to buy some of those bands TODAY to put around the linen duvet sets - I typically am able to tell which duvet sets are king sized and which ones are queen sized just by looking at them because I know which colors/styles have been purchased for the primary bedroom vs. guest bedrooms.

However, I do have chambray blue yarn dyed linen duvet sets + white linen duvet sets + indigo blue yarn dyed linen duvet sets in both king and queen sizes. While I know which ones are king/queen (based upon folded size + location in linen closet), when someone else puts them away, they aren't always placed in the correct spot which makes it difficult for me to tell.

Also, my SO can't remember which duvet sets are for our room vs. guest rooms - and even though it's RARE for him to pull a duvet set out of the linen closet, it does happen once in awhile. Those bands would make it easy enough even for him to identify them (= takes away his excuse of not being able to change a duvet cover because he doesn't know which one to grab 😂).

We have one bed downstairs -- a king, and those sheets are primarily linen. Easy to tell apart and they are the only ones that stay downstairs. Upstairs, we have 2 queens and that bedding is kept in the respective closets, but they are all interchangeable. I also have a twin that is seldom used, and the sheets for that bed go in a dresser drawer. Twin sheets are so easy, but the beds are useless for anyone over the age of 10 in our family. In fact, IIRC that twin was my bed until I was 10 and then it went to my younger sister. The story is that it belonged to my father's great aunt who employed Mrs. O'Leary as a housekeeper and it was impressed upon me at an early age that it survived the Great Chicago Fire so it will always have a place -- and a drawer for a change of sheets.

My cleaning woman neatly folds my sheets and tucks them beautifully into one of the pillow cases from the set.

We have multiple sets of sheets because we sometimes like to use flannel sheets (top sheet and pillowcases), sometimes cotton, etc. Plus i have a few bedding sets i switch around and i like my sheets to coordinate. I prefer ivory over white but i have some other pastels and some with small prints. (Tina Marie)

I have no trouble folding mine neatly as I use only flat sheets - gave up dealing with fitted ages ago. I also removed a linen closet. It was in the hallway and I roved it to make more room in the bathroom and add a 3' pocket door to the bathroom. Linens go in a narrow closet in my bedroom.

In one house, I have two linen closets. The sheets are folded, flat and fitted, with the pillowcases inside the folded flat. There are queens and twins in one linen closet; I put the twin sets on one shelf, the queen sets on another. The other linen closet has only king size sheets; the pillow cases go inside the folded flat. In our other house, the sheets for each room are on a shelf in the closet. In our "other house", there is only one change of sheets for each bed. My friend has an elastic band she wraps around each set of sheets; that's how she's tamed the chaos.
