Allison (I think) or others who have solved the frizz problem

Can you post your products? I swear there was a recent thread but I can't find it.

We are spending time in the humid South after being in the desert and oh my goodness, my hair that was a chic sleek gray bob now looks like someone attached dozens of cotton balls to my head. It looks fine in the house but the minute I walk outside it poufs up.

Help! Anyone! : )

I have the same issue in the humid midwest. Have you tried applying a thin layer of wax to the surface? I sometimes put wax in my hands, warm it and just glide it over the top of my hair. I am not consistent at all but I do think it helps.

I also remember the thread where this was discussed recently.

ETA: look thru the products that fall flat thread, that could be what you were thinking.

This LINK is the thread where people discussed hair frizz.

    Take THIS hair quiz.

I use a Redkin Shampoo and Conditioner he recommended for my hair type. These are the other products I used:

Leave in Conditioner (comes in 2 sizes, I buy the largest). FYI His videos also tell you how many pumps you need depending on hair length, and where it should go (not everything goes on top of head).

Heat Protector, if you use a blow dryer or blow dry brush. It also improves texture, shine and longevity of the blow out.

Hair oil to put on the ends after drying. It is light, and a little goes a long way. I reapply on days I do not wash my hair. The bottles seems small, but it lasts a long time.

He also recommends using dry shampoo on the days you do not wash hair. I've been using Oribe for years.

Today, I noticed he is recommending some of his products when you take the hair quiz. This was not the case when I took it about a year ago (his line had not come out yet). I would suggest going to his YT and look for videos with content you are interested in seeing. I learned a lot.

In one video he said humidity sprays really do not work and just make your hair need washing sooner. I did find that to be true. I stopped using and I don't notice a difference. I still had light frizz on some days, and it is still the case. In any state with high humidity, I don't think it's possible to go outside and stay frizz free!

I have a Dyson hair dryer and it comes with a frizz attachment that pushes those fly aways hairs underneath. It works, but it also makes hair flatter.

He purchases many many products and tests them. He is very open about products that do not work and are a waste of money. The Pureology is much better than my previous product. I've never used a heat protector or hair oil, but I am a fan now.

The problem I have with the hair quiz is how often do you need to wash your hair. I wash mine daily but that is because it needs styled every day, not that is is unclean. Between severe bedhead from sleep and a CPAP mask, there are few days that I would leave the house with my hair looking like it does. I do have short hair.

The quiz said I should wash my hair every 5 days. I can only imagine what I would look like by that point! My one DD washes her hair weekly and it blows my mind. Her hair is shoulder length and wavy/curlier than mine.

I'm here in the steamy south LOL. I have thick, somewhat wavy hair. It is medium-short length. When it was longer, I had more wave/curl. I was a dark, dark brown until I let the color grow off. My hair is different shades of gray with some white streaks. One thing I learned after the color change was to limit products. Product can build up on your hair and on white/silver (and I would assume light blond?) it can change your color. I also learned NOT to use the purple shampoos, which can also build up. They can tint your hair if you use them often. My stylist told me they are known for scalp build-up. I use a clarifying shampoo and wash my hair every 2-3 days. I do not like dry shampoo as it "dulls" my hair; normally my hair is shiny. I do not always use conditioner, just if I feel like I need it. I only lightly blow dry my hair, letting it get almost dry and then "fluffing" with the hairdryer and use a brush on either side of my part. I use John Frieda dream curl gel. I have used his frizz control gels for many years. I squish it through my DRY hair, embracing the wave rather than fighting it. I have used a couple products in that line. More info than you probably wanted about color products, etc. Do you love your gray hair? : )

ETA: I wish Bunny would weigh in as she has GORGEOUS hair! Not sure if she has a problem with frizz though.

Rnmom - I have a shelf filled with products I have tried, including borrowing DH's hair wax. No matter how little I apply, the thicker products often leave a film on my forehead and hairline, which feels lovely. And many things make my scalp uncomfortably itchy the next day.

Allison - Thank you so much, that is exactly what I was looking for. I'll let you know how it works out.

Tina Marie - I like my gray hair when it doesn't puff up like a cotton ball! I'm relieved to not have to worry about roots any longer. One of the kids at school said to me, why is your face young but you have old hair? I guess it was a compliment!

Tina Marie, you are sweet. For the past few weeks I've been at odds with my hair, probably due to a different kind of cut that now seems not to be working out.

It's not very humid here, so that helps with frizz. However, we do get a morning marine layer and that will trigger waves that aren't always welcome. I do have a weird patch of frizz that makes no sense, like an outpouring from the back of my crown down one side of the back of my head. My round brush skills aren't good enough to smooth it out.

I went from an every day shampooer to twice a week. My hair will look okay but I prefer a fresher aroma. I have never found a dry shampoo that actually works. It fills my hair with scent, but I don't feel any cleaner. The latest is Kevin Murphy and it's kinda stinky.

I have never used a heat protectant, but I don't use a lot of heat on my hair either.

I've been so annoyed with my hair of late. I can style it after I wash it, it looks fine, and then, after sleeping on it, it returns to some default setting. So this time after washing I didn't style it and there isn't a whole lot of difference.

I do think a good haircut is everything.

The solution to my frizz problem is apparently to move to Las Vegas. My hair looks FABULOUS in that dry desert heat. Put me back in the Northeast humidity in the summer, and it's Roseanne Roseannadanna time!

Heat protectant, Argan Oil, and a flat iron help....but for most of the summer I just give up and wear it in a pony tail or a loose bun. Of course my pony tail looks like a squirrel tail instead of those beautiful sleek ones I've always longed to have - but hey, at least it's out of my face.

I would seriously shave my head if it were socially acceptable. Frizz is the bane of my (hair) existence.

I learned to look for amodimethicone in a hair product from this beauty science blogger: https://labmuffin.com/amodimethicone-my-new-favourite-hair-ingredient/

I then found that the this detangling spray from Dollar Tree has it as its second ingredient. It doesn't completely take away the frizz, but is a good start.

Bunny- I like the Briogeo scalp revival dry shampoo. It's non aerosol and doesn't have a scent (that I can tell). It's expensive but lasts forever. Sometimes Sephora sells sample kits that include the dry shampoo.

Terezosa - Dollar Tree does have some hidden gems. And the best part is if they don't work out, you didn't waste a lot of money. Unlike purchasing things suggested by a hair stylist.

Ally De - I spent most of my adult life in the SE, battling frizz. Then we moved out to dry Denver about ten years ago. And I realized that I don't have bad hair, I just wasn't living in the right spot!

I purchased a couple of the things mentioned in the link that Allison provided. He does give great suggestions. Fingers crossed!
