For what it's worth, I'd rather struggle along with my roses in my own way. There's a personal, dare I say it, affectionate relationship that I have with them, struggling through the vicissitudes and relishing every little victory, that I would not want to give up.

I was impressed by what I read just now, about Mr. Bifano concerning his rose gardening perspectives after my curiosity was peeked by Sheila's post. I just scrolled down a search on his name, and came across article after article (free sourced), delineating his rose care philosophy, with several quotes attributed to him.

He seems to know his stuff, quite knowledgeable, and his connection with the 'stars,' doesn't take away from what I believe to be in him, the making of a top notch Rosarian's Rosarian.

Maybe that's what I should do when I retire, eh? I have experience with hundreds of roses with plenty of divas among them. Nah, it's the human divas I can't tolerate.

He lives in my city. He knows a lot about roses. I'm not a fan of his, because the comment "I prefer billionaires" sums up his attitude towards people perfectly (in the 25 years I've "known" him via local rose circles). I have several specific stories about this. Anyway... I subscribe to the LA Times and brought up this one page with the article from today and test-sent it to myself, and it worked. But that could be because they know my email. Maybe it'll work *EDIT to add: I removed the link since it didn't work*

Great comments, all. Susan, I think I get the picture here. It was the outrageousness of that “I prefer billionaires” quote that made me want to post this in the first place. The nerve, right?

I kept the hard copy of the newspaper section with the article. I could take pics of it so you could read it, but I'm not sure if anyone cares enough :-D

His personality may be obnoxious, but his knowledge base concerning all things roses cannot be taken away from him. He evidently gets results for his clientele, or he would be gone in a heart beat. One thing they demand is perfection. I can assure you that he walks a tightrope among them.
