Million Dollar Fixer Upper. for your viewing pleasure

last month

When I heard the description I have to say I was intrigued. On 5 acres, in a wonderful area, apparently was originally a Sears house and then it was built on and expanded and is now approx 17000 sf. The write up also said mechanical systems are updated. It has a theatre, indoor pool, 3 kitchens, and on and on.

.Here's the LINK to the listing.

Love the outside!! So much horrid flooring in that place and not the kind easy to remove.

I forgot to add that "theatre"--ya no it's not!! Are you asking about the sticky fly catchers? They appear FULL. Makes me wonder if something besides the flies died in that house to attract so many. The bleach by the pool may be a hint as to previous odors.

I didn't look too closely, but funny thing- DH looked at the listing and even commented on the rings in the toilet bowls! Maybe not so noteworthy but he who notices nothing saw that.

The first thing to fix up is the pictures! Jeepers they are awful. Sweep and vacuum, arrange the furniture, close the toilet lid, then take some decent pictures and it will look marketable. And I need a floor plan, hard to tell where everything is. As long as they don’t label the theatre ”dungeon/den of iniquity for watching S&M films”.

I'm so confused. But it could be ideal for a roommates/multigenerational/polygamous situation.

That house does not have good juju.

That's terrible! I would not want to watch a horror movie in that "theatre", I'd be scared to death! I'm pretty sure it's haunted too...LOL! What a mess that is!

Makes ME want to downsize IMMEDIATELY! Bigger is not better. Room after room of messes. It does have a pretty exterior.

First, I'd offer it to the fire department to do a controlled burn!

Second, I would build a nice normal house on the 5 acres.

Actually, looking at the area around it, the best use of the property would be to tear down, subdivide and build 5+ houses.

A million to buy, a million to try and fix, and it really would not be worth $2M right there, I don't think, although there are lots of multi million properties out there.

It's been on the market for 9 months, it was priced much too high to start, and it looks like it's probably going to end up going for somewhere around what the current owners bought it for in 2018.

It seems like the pool and sunroom account for quite a bit of the square footage, which isn't exactly misleading, but that's not exactly everyday space for most people in this climate. I feel like the current owners bought it, did some random renovations here and there with no strategic plan, and couldn't really afford to keep it. In a way it's tainted because it's been on the market a long time for the area and the price started out at $2.6M. Those are things that scare people away, if they see it at all since it's so far down the list.
