The Trumpets Sound Amid Downpours

"An unprecedented season," said Kay. I'm afraid that with the deluge of rain, the breaking of precedent might not be positive. Foliage is just huge, and yes, blooms can be magnificent, but the humidity is stifling and heat is on the way.

Announcement of the new bloom season.

Kensington Plantation

Holmes' Mower King is tall and big.

Works for Me looked good. Bud count modest.

Small World Fire in the Hole. Likes the estate setting (no earwigs). About 5 inches.

Heroes on Horseback is tall.

A comfortable setting.

The first bloom from my Northern Lights order showed yesterday. It was a Fooled Me kid--not what I ordered. Not the first time I was fooled.

A comfortable setting indeed! Well, maybe with a fan!! You are correct about the heat and humidity. Even my EMWs (early morning walks) are leaving me hot and sweaty. Small World Fire In The Hole looks vibrant. Works For Me always has low bud count for me as well but it does look good. Is that the color you are seeing on Kensington Plantation? It looks paler than mine.

Kate, your June 3 photo of Kensington is quite light, with white and pink hues. It is a very beautiful flower, but this was FFO. The picture didn't really capture the flower's beauty.

Works for Me is a large flower with intense color. There isn't that much to choose from here in that color.

All of the ones you posted look very good but I like Works for Me and Small World Fire in the Hole. The edges on both look perfect. I do like that seating area.

    How are your scape heights?

Magnificent trumpets. Love your Works for Me, but was sad to know it has low bud count. I love that look, I have Crazy Ivan, but it's first bloom round is always so very short, drives me crazy. It does bloom tall enough to be acceptable on rebloom at least.

Julia, scape heights are good on most things. I will note any discrepancies later. Works for Me blooms well; sometimes, a lower bud count is accompanied by low scape density, but not the case with Works. I'm amazed by all the pics I see from the South on Facebook that don't have better bud count on things than I do here. When I use the phrase "modest" bud count, that is a step higher than "low." "Low" means it may be exiting.

To me, being an earlier bloom is a positive--I suppose just like many go bananas over late bloomers, when I am a bit sated.

Small World Fire In the Hole looks to be well-budded. Works for Me has attractive blooms despite its modest budcount. The trumpets are wonderful!

Mower King stands up and out to me with those colors......I LOVE your lilies. Any clue what they are? I don't do lilies here, so I'm not overly educated in them, but those are definitely not the usual short Asian type.........I love your seating area. That little end table could use a nice pot of mini daylilies in full bloom though- You know I love my pots lol..........Maryl

Front lily is Regale Album. The scene is from the estate.

I don't know how I missed this post. I like Holmes' Mower King . Works For me is very nice, modest bud count or not. Small World Fire in the hole is a nice one and the comfortable setting does indeed look comfortable the pot wwith Petunias and Hibiscus is an eye catcher.
