What kind of chandelier?

last month

This is my kitchen It is 18 by 14 with a 10 foot wall and the ceiling vaulted to 20 feet. My island is 8x5. I have chosen the sconces that I have rough pasted that into my rendering. What kind of chandelier should go over the island? I was thinking rattan? My aesthetic is nancy meyers, cozy, homey. My sink faucet will be polished nickel and the cabinet pulls an aged brass. Thank you!

I would suggest something long but narrow, or a matching round pair, that match the sconces (they appear to be aged brass). There will likely be other items in the kitchen that tie in with your nickel faucet. But nothing to go with a rattan light fixture, and they are also notoriously difficult to keep clean. Have you considered a taller decorative hood for the wall above the stove?

    Nothing huh?

Hmmmm very good question about the cabinet door being able to open. Will have to ask my architect for the exact measurement there, but I do like the option of putting the sconces above the window. I did see the sconces you showed (the cheaper one) but don’t love it as much ! Rattan… yes I’ve heard it’s difficult to keep clean as well.. in the dining room I may have rattan esque Roman shades? I’m still in the beginning stages so I have a lot of time to think and combine options. Thank u!

There are lots of choices if you don't want rattan.

I like linear fixtures over islands. What about something like these?

Can't say that I am a big fan of the sconces. Might suggest you look for something else that appears less like a hat than those.

We suggest moving away from the rattan and have the chandelier match the finish of the sconces.

Agree with Diana on looking for options that are linear to go over the island.

Rattan in a kitchen sounds like a nightmare. It’s the greasiest part of your house, so a smooth surface pendant would be preferable.

I would also address the door opening dilemma that Beverly caught.

ok, got it. rattan in kitchen = greasy mess. The reason i was staying away from linear is because of the island's orientation. The kitchen is the end of the great room (which is a rectangular shaped great room: living room, dining room ending with kitchen). From the vantage point when you enter the great room, you see the narrower side of the island- and if the chandelier is narrow, you will only see the end? of it (does that make sense). So in order to take some visual volume up, I was thinking of something round? Ideally I wanted the island oriented the other way, but then the clearances on either side won't be enough (and we want a big island).

You have a rectangular island, so I'm not sure a circular fixture would be best. It would work better with a square island.

Anyway, there's only one specific point where you'd only see the end of a linear fixture, and that would be DIRECTLY in line with the fixture. From any other vantage point (like 359 degrees) you'd see part of the linear fixture.

If you could find something oval that may work, but I'm not sure how available they are.

Here's one in a colonial style--it comes in antique brass too:

    This one is more modern:
