Yours are mounted a bit too high.

I wondered.. is their a suggestion for how many inches they should be hung from the filing?

Consider mounting the rods about 4” above the height of the kitchen cabinets.

.panels are standard sizes off the rack 84", 96" Don't know what your window is, but a 96" would likely look great. put the drapes on the rod and hold it to the height before you drill, so they just brush the floor. Light sheers will diffuse the light.

Hope this helps as the bulk head is making it feel squeezed in. I’d go cream vs almond for a lighter feel which will also break up all the warm tones.

I noticed the drapes squeezed in on the sliding door; maybe consider a cream blind, to lighten it up and to feel more modern.

I’d mark halfway between the top of the window and the ceiling and then move it up an inch or two. If that’s close to a standard size then that’s the spot, unless you plan to hem them

We like to come down 5" off the ceiling for the majority of our installations. Of course there are circumstances that must be worked around sometimes. In your case the 5" rule would work. Your tray ceiling already makes your wall height look a little stunted so I wouldn't go any lower than that personally.

I’m curious where the shade can be purchased for our sliding glass door.

Most blind retailers offer custom blinds with style/content/dimension options. Try blinds.com just for fun to get ideas or look locally. Suggest something like these, which will allow decent light to filter in.
