How to prevent leaves going into channel drain outside garage door?

Dear all, thanks in advance for your help!

We have a channel drain right outside of our garage door too but the nearby tree has a lot of falling leaves which can easily clog the channel drain (see photos below). Is there a good mesh or leaf guard solutions that is designed to be installed right beneath the channel drain which will not rust and can prevent the leaves from getting into the channel drain? Thanks so much!!

To answer your question, no there is no simple solution. Mesh that leaves can't get through will only collect a bunch of leaves causing water to flow over grate and run into garage. You need to routinely remove grate and clean channel. It's construction 101 to never pour garage floor at same elevation as driveway First step in constructing anything, be-it home, warehouse or parking lot is to prepare grade so that site naturally drains.

My wife's idea is to use window screen mesh (fiberglass) to serve as leave guard, but maybe the holes of these fiberglass window screens are too small. Any "mesh" materials that we can use that may have bigger holes on the mesh that can let water go through but will catch the leaves? Thanks!

My thoughts are like your wife’s. Perhaps a fiberglass or coated hardware cloth would work and they can be found with 1/2” mesh, like here: 1/2” coated hardware cloth

Any screening is just going to add another cleaning step to the process and will end up blocking the water from getting into the drain like Klem told you. To prevent that, you will end up needing to clean the screening more often than what you have now.

I chose the window screen and frequent clean method on a drain at my previous home. It sure beat having clogged pipes. I just considered it a part of yard work.
