11' wall for butler-pantry type of idea

last modified: 25 days ago

Am looking for ideas for an 11' wall that is in a passageway between main part of the house (brownstone) and entry to the kitchen. The width of the space is 6.5'. Thinking about building a butler-pantry type of idea, but it will be only along one wall. On the opposite wall, there is an entry to a traditional dining room. Would like the 11' to accomodate standard-height countertop, some storage for folding chairs, and other regular storage. Don't especially love glass doors for upper cabinets but don't want the wall to look heavy. I'm on the search for photos, ideas, etc to get a vision going! Thanks

For a light wood pantry, you can use Ikea Vedhamn 15" deep cabinets. Link. Solid European Oak. Made in Hungary.

The 14"-deep IKEA cabinets are Sektion cabinets which can be fitted with any door and drawer front. IKEA Vedhamn are the oak door and drawer fronts.

"Would like the 11' to accomodate some counter-height, storage for folding chairs..."

(Assuming the comma after "counter-height" is incorrect) I have some common folding chairs that are 37" tall and wouldn't fit in a typical SEKTION 30" base cabinet.

6.5 isn't very deep for opening doors and standing in front of them.

yes, the passageway leads into a newly built large kitchen with access to the outside and yes, there are ways to haul in new appliances, thanks for mentioning tha

6.5 isn't the best for opening large doors, so we'll have to work with that dimension. right now i'm looking for photos, layout ideas, inspiration, sources for building this....just in the starting inspiration stage!

    121" long x 78" wide x how tall?

What are the size of your chairs when folded and how may of them do you have?

Do the kitchen or dining room, or other room have a door that swings into this space?

A simple drawing would be helpful.

Do you imagine serving in here, using it as a bar, or really just as an extra storage area?

Consider lighting while designing. You don't need glass uppers but will want good lighting and thoughtful finishes do you can see in here and it won't feel completely hemmed in.

Consider carrying countertop up as a backsplash. Consider a mirrored splash so it makes the counter look as though it continues more deeply into the wall.

What you store in here can dictate drawer size on lower cabints. Perhaps you want a tall pantry with a door that opens up and has folding chairs standing up in a row and shelves above.

Look at galley kitchens for inspiration. These are mostly traditional looks but you can easily go with contemporary finishes.

    Folding chair storage.

Cabinet that opens up with roll out chair storage cart. (This is in a pic from a church.)

Can mount these inside a pantry closet.

Purchase your chairs, measure, then design your storage space.
