Floof: What is your most rarely used possession?

I just used mine: My ironing board. It has been years, maybe more, I can't even remember the last time I set it up and ironed something.

Years ago a friend of mine and her family were staying with us and she needed to borrow my iron/ironing board. My own kids were fascinated by this most unusual contraption.

My most rarely used possession, in that same vein, is the vacuum cleaner. Again, whenever I used it the kids wanted to know who was coming over for dinner. That was before we switched to hardwood.

I prefer using a broom and a swiffer mop.

I have a lot of items that have a seldom-used specialty purpose, but a common one would be the coffee maker. It only gets used if a guest wants coffee. In fact, I recently had a friend come to stay and bought a one-cup Keurig for her use (that's what she preferred), so I probably could donate my larger automatic drip coffee maker. For now, I have room to store it, but if I downsize again, I'll put it in the donate pile along with the mokapot.

Cuisinart food processor that i just HAD to have. I think i used it once? 🙄

Occasionally DH will take the full sized ironing board out of the laundry room closet and shop vac dust from it for me. It's only needed for formal tablecloths when i have all the leaves in my table. He does iron, insists on creasing his jeans daily (! I won't do it) but we have a small built in in the laundry room wall.

Two curling irons. I cannot do the back of my hair successfully with a curling iron. Other than that I'm pretty good with my hair.

My largest Nesco roaster. I think I cooked a holiday ham in it about 10 years ago.

I have a vintage percolator that makes the best coffee ever. It hasn't been used in more than a decade. The last time it saw use was a hunting trip DH made to a Montana cabin with his brother and they used it. He was finding the licenses, land use permits too expensive and the woods full of amateurs who couldn't distinguish an elk from a beef cow or another hunter. He quit going.

I don't normally keep anything that's not used, but a couple of things come to mind. One is the handful of dvd's that I'm always thinking I'll watch. Second is an electric skillet, that I think I used once, but can't part with it. Because, you know, I may have to cook something in it one of these days.

the woods full of amateurs who couldn't distinguish an elk from a beef cow or another hunter. He quit going.

    Excellent decision.

I guess this counts as a possession. Our building dream included a big brick /stone fireplace on our back porch. And that's what we did. Obviously we thought we would use it a lot more than we do. I think we've averaged two to four fires per year. It's either too hot for a fire or too cold to sit outside with that as the only source of heat!

My rolling pin. I keep it in case I need it some day but the truth is if a recipe required a rolling pin I'd pass on it. Maybe I'm thinking I'd need it for some non-culinary purpose.

It's got to be my iron. I don't even have an ironing board. A close second would be a retro sunbeam milk shake mixer that my stepmom gave us all for Christmas probably 25 years ago. I've never plugged it in. I also have a Keurig that only comes out of the cabinet for a week or so every fall when my house is rented out on Vrbo. The turkey roaster doesn't get much play either, now that I think about it . . .

Our master bedroom fireplace. When we had this place built 32 years ago, we had 4 wood burning fireplaces put in, 3 kivas and one regular in the living room. I seriously can’t remember when we had a fire in our master bedroom fireplace last. Maybe ten years ago. Sad!.

    Waffle maker.

I love waffles. I'm just too lazy to make them. So I keep this thing around why? To make me feel sad every time I look at it?

Unfortunately there are probably many barely used items in my possession, if I'm honest. One that comes to mind: a CHI hair flat iron. I bought it at some point, maybe used it once or twice and it sat in a drawer for so many years it just stopped working on its own. For some reason I got it out again to use it and it just wouldn't turn on so I threw it away.

Sous Vide - a Christmas present to DH from the kids. He used it twice.

A jewelry steamer/cleaner - another gift from the kids to me. It's in the box to be donated.

Oh wait - thought of another one. DH bought an electric meat slicer 15 years ago - used once. Back in the box and relegated to the garage.

I'm using the above comments to add items to my "donate" list!

I never iron! My SO does - but I can't tell you the last time I used one!

    Curling iron.

    Panini Maker.

Camping stove, pots & pans, plates. When was the last time we went tent camping...hhhmmm.....?

Air fryer given to me as a gift. Have not used it.

An ancient electric knife. I cannot tell you why I haven’t donated it except it sits in a seldom used drawer taking up little space and i forget it’s there.

Another oldie, an Oster blender. Because i might make another frozen daiquiri? Maybe.

Same with the cuisinart food processor. Had to have it and it’s been used a few times but not enough to justify the real estate all the pieces take up.

The sous vide is already gone as are several pieces of cookware I never used anymore.

Fortunate to write:Emergency Equipment. They expire or die before use. Fire extinguishers, Electrical Storage Batteries, First Aid Gear.

Count me in on the Sous Vide. The Sous Vide was a work reward item that my husband chose several years ago and it has never been unboxed.

I bought a soda stream years ago and never unboxed it. I love bubbly flavored waters but discovered Spindrift and lost my desire to make my own.

My wedding dress, worn once, been in storage since and I have two sons. Should look into to donation .

so many. When we downsized, I gave away most of those kitchen items that barely ever were used- the Oster blender was one. After we moved, I saw some recipe that suggested blending. I looked on my buynothing site and someone had a brand new one in box so I brought it home. I also was curious about a pizza stone- I got one on buy nothing as well.

I can tell you it's been at least 4 years that neither of those 2 have been used- never in my home. I keep thinking about it but so far, there's room and I MIGHT get ambitious one day.

Re the iron and ironing board- I do use them maybe once or twice a month in the summer months, and probably not at all for 3 or 4 months.

A Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker-I bought it with the soul intention of making Lavender Ice Cream. Never used it and there it sits for about 4 years now-but look at it all the time and still think I'm going to. I don't even have a recipe yet.

My friends and I always use a steamer now-instead of an iron/ironing board.

Oh so many things... I just need to think of what's in the attic. We can start with DH's grandmother's silverplate flatware. It's engraved with our initial. But who wants to polish it? And it's up there next to my mother's silverplate flatware, same issue. I also have a Fiestaware orange bowl from MIL and I understand we can't use it as it's radioactive? I have a slew of nice costume jewelry from MIL that I've never worn. It's a lot of matching earrings and bracelets which are too sweet for me and the earrings are not for pierced ears so too painful to wear too. I have shells from my grandmother that were painted in soft colors and put on stems to look like rose buds. The stems are the old fashioned smelly plastic ones with awful leaves. I always think I'm going to do something with them, but never have.

I could go on, but you get the idea...

I mostly use my ironing board when I’m packing for a trip. It’s a comfortable height and wide surface for spreading out toiletry and other small items I need to pack, or for folding or rolling items going in the suitcase.

Maybe the least used item in this house, filled with too much stuff, is the fondue pot.

I don't iron much, but when you need one, you need one. I usually iron my cloth napkins. That's easy enough not to send out. I bought a steamer but then donated it, cannot recall why.

    I agree with fondue pot.

I don't iron my own clothes but I do use mine frequently (with board) to iron altar linens for church.

All the attachments for my Dyson cordless vacuum. I use the vac by itself a lot, but in standup, drive-it-through-the-house mode.

Cherry pitter, mortar pestle and probably other kitchen drawer items I thought I might try when we were closing down my in-laws home.

Electric popcorn maker, fondue pots, crystal, china and silverplate flatware- I really need to donate these items -- they are taking up valuable real estate in my home.

What I want the most changes. I cannot make my husband understand that what we needed in our twenties and camping, we do not need now in our 70’s and no camping, not even in a huge fifth wheel. What he needed hunting, which he no longer does, is not needed or wanted. He will get rid of NOTHING. Everything, even junk, has a value and you can only sell, not donate or throw away.

Not only that, but he hauled home stuff from my parents and his and from everything on the side of the road.

He keeps buying and buying and hauling home and I am about to scream!

Oh @Sherry8aNorthAL that is so frustrating! My husband has a hard time letting go of some things, and honestly I have a hard time letting go of different things. But it's really frustrating when the stuff just starts to accumulate and you know you don't need or want it. Worse if your spouse continues to bring things home. Wishing you luck that he starts listening.

Home Depot has large storage buildings at relatively reasonable cost. They are certainly not buildings one might be proud to have on one's property but strategically located in the back might serve as a repository for all his stuff and you never have to step foot inside. While your relationship might not allow you to put the kibosh on his buying, in many marriages the wife oversees the decorating and what can go on display in the living rooms and so on. Tell him the storage building is his and he can knock himself out storing his hunting collection.

Hot Tub, I think I’ve used it twice in five years and DH about 4 or 5 times, but DSIL and DGS use it about once a month and guests enjoy it when they visit. Mojomom

Definitely the iron and ironing board. Cannot remember the last time I used it. I have one of those standup steamers in my closet and that gets used all the time. Even DH steams his clothes often.

Waffle maker. Actually, 2 waffle makers. We went through a phase many years ago where we made waffles almost every weekend. And to make enough fast enough, we bought 2 waffle irons. Haven't used them in probably 20 years. No idea why I still have them.

My ironing board stays out all the time, as I use it often.

Also, I have three irons, but I could get rid of one of them

The thing I use least is my crock pot, which I've had for well over 10 years and not used more than twice. I poached a chicken in it once and then went back to using my pressure cooker. I bought a crock pot cookbook and did not like any of the recipes I found it in, and so I never made any of them. I don't even remember why I thought I needed a crock pot - possibly to use for slow cooking, which really does not appeal to me.

Oh also someone gave me a small veggie chopper that I still have never used. It was very thoughtful and I probably need to figure out how to integrate it into my cooking routine. But usually I like to choose exactly how my veggies are chopped up (size, etc) and so I haven't tried it.

My KitchenAid stand mixer glass bowl. A few years back there was a thread, started by Jen I think, where she really really wanted one, got it, and I thought it looked terrific on her counter. So I had to have one. It's quite heavy and I found it actually didn't look as good sitting under my mixer as hers did. Something about seeing the cord through the glass. So it's in one of my upper cabs still in its virgin state. Many times when mixing I think the glass would be great to see inside--they always use the glass ones on the cooking shows--but the stainless bowl is so easy.

Whatever it is I don’t know because I haven’t seen it in years 😎

I think the main reason why I never use that Cuisinart FP is because it's so darn complicated. I had an old Sunbeam (I think that's what it was) for years and it was so simple to put together. I used it often but it finally bit the dust so I got the Cuisinart one and every time I've tried to use it, I have to watch a video of how to put it together. It really should NOT be that difficult to assemble!

Similar thing with the newest rendition of the Black and Decker carpet spot cleaner. Our old one gave up the ghost so we had to buy the newest one and I really just do not like it. Taking it apart for cleaning is a puzzle each time. The old one was so simple and it also did a better job of cleaning up the dog accidents. I use it because I have to.

Bunny - I don't use a cord organizer for my KA mixer because I keep it in the panty along with 2 bowls and all the accessories. But have you thought about using a cord organizer? It might help hide the cord.

I believe it's a toss-up between my pasta roller/cutter and my apple peeler/cutter. No wait! there's a meat grinder with a sausage attachment somewhere too. :)

I can vouch for that cord organizer. I have it on my KA mixer on my counter and it was the best $10 (?? don't actually remember how much, but very cheap) I spent.

I have 2 cord organizers in the drawer, still in the package!

Hot rollers, haven's used since 1980's, but they are still under my bathroom sink.

A white, gauze, very full midi skirt that I bought on sale at Talbot’s when I was having a peasant-style moment. It still has the tags on it.

A Calphalon grill pan. I now cook my steaks using my sous vide circulator (you people who aren’t using your sous vides are missing out. They are great!)
