Repairing a chip on the edge of quartz countertop?

A small chip occurred on my quartz countertop when I accidentally knocked it with a mug. It was naturally on the edge of the sink. The chip is very small. About 1/4” wide by a fraction of that in thickness. Kinda flat.

I saved/have the chip. I sent the pix you see here to the company that sold & installed the countertop to ask if they’d repair. They told me yes, for $500. Oy. Is that a reasonable amount for this repair? I assume I shouldn’t attempt to DIY?

The very best and most expensive repair is chip elimination by reprofiling and polishing the sink edge. Now the chip is nonexistent, no repair to fail, and the more rounded edge is less likely to chip.

Super glue dries to a medium gray so it won't look bad if you simply glue the chip back in. Overfill a bit and after the glue has set, scrape the excess away with a razor blade. Ceramic razor blades don't leave metal marks on stone.

You'll probably be able to feel the repair; to eliminate that you'll need to call a pro with a diamond pad protocol. $300.00 - $500.00.

I’d superglue the chip back in place then assess if it needs anything more to look good.

I work with with two fabricators currently and another one we cut ties with after they started selling cabinets.

$350 is average when you do a search on Google.

My one fabricator was $500 for trip charge and chip repair....even 10 years ago when we still used them.

My other fabricator charges $260 for trip charge PLUS the cost to repair.

$500 doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

I would just pretend that it’s marble and enjoy the patina. :)

But, if I really wanted to fix it (and if I wasn't so super lazy) I might try super glue.

Best if you can hire a professional to handle the repair. If you're a DIYer, you'll go for an epoxy, that will dry as hard as the Quartz. They have color match epoxy that will help with blending. Clean and fill in the chip. Once dry (in dry weather can take up to 3 days), sand thoroughly with a fine grit sandpaper and polish with a polishing compound. We recommend Weiman Quartz Clean & Shine.

It’s your first chip, you’ll have more around that sink in time. If I understand Joe’s advice, it means your profile around the sink will change (get rounder) but then you won’t see this chip and you won’t have more chips in the future. I’d go for that.
