Two doors on front of house is breaking my brain

I absolutely HATE the look of the two doors. i love the function of it, the family uses the door on the left and the kids throw there stuff down while the main entry stays tidy but outside… yuck. Ive done alot of gardening but havent touched the door situation as Im at a loss what to do. Im planning to add trim around the windows and replace the railing on the porch but on a budget I cant do much beyond paint/trim etc any ideas/advice is much appreciated!!!

what kind of siding is on the house? stucco?

What kind of trim around the windows? All the windows?

Without a lot of thought, I would repaint both doors, one (the garage access) to disappear into the siding with no trim contrast and the Front door a prominant color (the whole door including that sidelite panel.) With a healthy Budget, I would replace both doors with different styles than what you have now. Depending on what you walk into on the front door, a hallway then a full view door like your windows. if living room, then a more private door with a window.

    The garden looks great!!!!!!!!!

Paint the secondary door and trim the same color as the stucco.

Pick the medium colour from your stone and paint the stucco, garage door secondary door, and all the trim. Your existing colour seems too light to me.

Paint the front door a contrasting colour. If you don't like bright, it can be the dark neutral from your stone.

    Your flowers are lovely!

I would make the beds along the front of the house much deeper, and add evergreen shrubs to visually anchor the house. At maturity the shrubs should be just lower than the bottom of the large window, and covering the porch cement. So about 4 feet tall, and 3-4 feet deep. Plant them far enough out that they won't touch the house when they're mature. Plant your shorter flowers in front of the shrubs. So your front beds will probably be about 6 feet deep.

IMO you have forced the entry to be hidden I never like the main entry to a home from the drivway always much nicer from the street and alot less comfusing in this case .So IMO a nice split in that wall witha set of steps leading to the actual entry .

Paint the service door and frame the same colour as the stucco. Paint your front door an accent colour. All trim white.

I would repaint the stucco and select a bright orange for the door.

I really love your garden and the red flowers. The red car is a perfect accessory. :)

I wouldn't worry about the two doors. It is tres chic to have a service entrance... In fact, I would just get a cool sign made for the door. SERVICE ENTRANCE. Or look around and maybe find an already made sign. That would be fab & fun. Why hide the door?

Draw attention to the front door/consider green and a color that blends into the facade for the garage and side doors…. if you want a subtle feel.

Another option is still going neutral on garage and side doors, but with a vibrant front door that draws attention.

Could you remove the door, and put it around on the side of the house? You could remove the door now, then as funds permit, and if you still need it, move the door at a later time.

Are your house numbers above the second door?

Everyone has amazing advice. Freedomplace your idea is brave and if I thought I could pull it off I would do it in a second!

I think I’m going to repaint the stucco a darker colour like BeverlyFLADeziner suggested and lisedv thank you for your rendition, I’m for sure going to go white trim around the windows and main door and blend the other door in. I’ll replace the main door and sidelite and paint them something brighter. There is a green I love from the faux rock design on the stucco that won’t be painted over so I might go with that although I do love the look of the orange and NEVER would have come up with that on my own. As for my drapes looking aweful, they are hung correctly and look good until the kids and dogs are awake. 🄓

    Thanks again for everyone’s help.

What do you think of my door choice? I’m thinking something like this.

Door #2, but in the green that you love? Yes! (Love the orange of door #1, but the angled windows add nothing.)

No, on the angled-windows door; Yes, on the second door. Yes, on the green you like or a terra cotta orange for the door.

Can you add house numbers as in that second door picture?

Congrats on your gardening, Megs, you've created a delightful spot. Happy bloom cutting!

I'm sure you love all the plants in the front, but to me it is distracting. I would simplify. maybe build a half wall for the sidewalk and plant a tree of some sort to block out the main door from the street view. Then play up the garage door a bit. Sorry I don't know how to do pics.

The door by the garage sticks out due to being white and the eye is always drawn to the lightest color. Paint it and it will fade into the house and continue to be convenient and useful.

Love the gardening and the retaining wall. The problem is the patch of grass and the ratio to grass related to the plants being larger. Maybe an island of plants in the middle of the grass would help the scale of it all. It is the scale that is a bit off, but looks great!

Here's with a darker stucco colour with white trim, garage door and side door painted the same colour as the stucco but the side door with frame same colour as door. Front door a bright colour with sidelight.

    Perfect is right!

I’m glad you liked the idea, Megs. I thought it could be fun, and also possibly practical. It depends on the situation, and also depends on the personal preference, though. So I understand. In my neck of the woods, in NYC, having a service entrance is considered an asset. I don’t have one now, but I would love it - as I get deliveries, and having a service entrance is helpful at times. So I would never hide the door - because obviously it’s useless, if service people can’t find the service door. :)

My instinct is the same as what has already been suggested - blend the service door into the garage and highlight the front door. What is so brilliant about Beverly's color scheme is the way the garage color blends with the roof. I think that is an important piece. It makes your home look bigger and less chopped up. Gets rid of the horizontal roof line running all the way across the front of your home. I'd do all of your painting and new door first. Then decide how to do your new railing. If you follow Beverly's suggestion, your home is going to look significantly different once the painting is done.

Fantastic job on the gardening by the way. Best transformation of all.
