August pictures and my haul from the sale/auction

The sale/auction was mostly a success. I sold a lot of plants and split the proceeds 50/50 with the club. I came home with the following plants: SOUTHERN SHINER, CURT'S GIFT, SUBTLE KNIFE ($5 so I thought it was worth the risk), HOTTER THAN THE FOURTH OF JULY (gift plant), HEAVENLY MAGICAL MOMENTS (auction) and LIGHT FANDANGO (AUCTION). There were other plants that I wanted, but they did not increase enough to bring back to the auction. I was floored at how much a single fan of THREE STRIPES went for. It went for $160.

Now on to some plants:

Scarlet Marie: one of the few doubles in my garden.

Sears Tower: it is 6 feet tall.

I use all the buckets first and then the kiddie pool. The kiddie pool takes up less space than the buckets. I was running out of buckets one year and I was at Walmart and saw kiddie pools. Then it dawned on me, "That would be a great thing to use to keep daylilies hydrated when I dig plants for a sale."

It looks like you have a good system for preparing your sale plants. The kiddie pool is a good idea for hydrating them. Alone Again, Shores of Time, and In High Regard have colors and shapes I like.

I agree: what a good system to prepare the plants! It looks like a LOT of work.

160.00 is certainly not in my price range no matter what a bloom looks like!

NO ORDINARY CHILD and ALONE AGAIN are both beautiful!! I love the colors and forms. I bookmarked this page so I can see them again!

My Sears Tower hasn't been as tall in recent years though it is somewhat tall. In fact, this year So Lovely and one of my seedlings, So Lovely x Fondly Kin, were way taller, perhaps 5 ft. I mainly keep Sears Tower because it is late and fine in the background, as the bloom is nothing exceptional and the wrong color for me.

That is a nice picture of In High Regard. Mine was only in its second year so not up to speed yet, but it did much better than last year.

No ordinary Child looks and sounds like a good one. The color daylily I always seem to go for. I have subtle Knife, has been a slowish grower here, but good dependable bloomer, and pretty

I grew Scarlet Marie for many years. I think it may have been my first double. It is a good one. Good photo of her.........I ask my DH every spring: "Can anyone ever have too many buckets?" I now see I need to add a kiddy pool to the list........Maryl

Wow, now that is a lot of work but well worth the effort. I would pick No Ordinary Child. Good color contrast and form.

I never thought of using a kiddie pool. What a great idea! We are always scrambling for buckets when we dig.

My picks today are Sears Tower (I like the tall ones) and No Ordinary Child. I am glad you posted Gaudeamus. I have seen photos of it with much deeper colors, but ours looks like yours.

No Ordinary Child looks great. My 112 degree real feel heat and 90% humidity might put the ”no melt” to the test!!

I use a hard plastic kiddie pool. I use it during the summer days to put any potted daylilies in that have missed planting times. If we are out of town for several days, I put my potted annuals in it to save asking neighbors to water my plants! It is a handy garden tool!! :)

It looks as if you are going to be very busy with all those from the sale. of the others, No Ordinary Child is my favorite but I do also like Alone Again.
