Commentors need to see the entire space not just isolated chairs and a table. Off the top of my head, eight nearby leather dining chairs with high backs are a lot of chairs. What kind of flooring and other furniture will be nearby? What does countertop look like? Cabinets? Wall color?

Because you're going to have a lot of chair legs in close proximity, I think a pedestal style base would break up the forest of legs - if they suit your lifestyle and are not tippy. This from Beverly's suggestions:

I do not think counter stools have to be like dining chairs. I like colored stools in kitchens and ideally low backed , and swivel . If you have young kids also height adjustable and far from the shape of the DR chairs so it looks intentional
