In search of cozy or…more inviting

last modified: 3 months ago

Just moved into a new ranch house. This is my dining room space. Hutch and table are not a set, but i wonder if the pieces go together? Also, is there a way to make this space more inviting? Rug suggestions? The mirror was here when we moved in as was the bar cart. Both can go. Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

Your table and the hutch are great together! Celery's room would be so easy to attain! I would lower the curtain rod even more--that gap between the window trim and rod is just odd/distracting.

You were blessed with great furniture. Rug, paint walls, consider doing something other than painted white.

Hutch and table are good together. Get rid of the mirror and keep barcart only if you use it. Since we can't see the whole room, does the table fit the other way? Matching drapes on windows and a chandelier. Celery's inspo is great!

I'd turn the table in the other direction.

Good suggestions so far - adding softness (rug, curtain panels) and texture (art, large live plant) and flattering soft lighting (chandelier at appropriate height ober table) will make this room shine ✨

Can you draw and measure the room, walls and windows in those and openings to kitchen, or foyer, etc and tell us the dimensions of table AND the hutch?

Add that all in a jpeg uploaded below.

Show the entire room ! Take more pictures, who even knew the dining was just one portion?

Nothing but nothing lives in isolation: )

There is always.....context! A whole picture.

What is the style you want for your home? I rarely like hutches if going fo a modern style. I much prefer a buffet and art . I would run the table the other way. I do not like rugs under dining tables . No 2 toned drapes ever, but the drapes need to be at least 2.5 x the width of the rod .IMO no mirror at all and do you use the bar cart if not remove it. What do you plan to have in the hutch if you keep it ? I do think you could keep the hutch in this case because that piece is quite lovely but I need some info. Remember if a rug goes in the space it needs to be at least 3' past the edge of the table in all directions , that is why we need the measurements of the space and also the size of thetable.

Your table, chairs and hutch go quite nicely together.

Yes that looks nice now centering that table under the window but I think the center of the table can you use a centerpiece on top of it too but it's so much better now I hope you go with that

Not my style but gorgeous furniture and it all works well together. Hard to say if you can use the mirror--show the rest of the space. Dining rooms benefit from soft furnishings like rugs and curtains because of all the hard surfaces. And keep the curtain rods just where they are. If you can swing it custom curtains would add a lot. Get a rug first and that will determine your palette.

The huge mirror on the floor is not good for kids or dogs. You can have it hung securely on cleats or sell it.

Your furniture is lovely. The bar cart doesn't add anything- it can go, too.

I'm not fond of the curtains. A bit dark. It also looks like you have sheers and curtains on the same rod. This isn't a big deal. A rug would help. I think a runner on your table --- I'd pick a colorful one, which might not be easy with the dark green curtains. A centerpiece on the table might be nice, too.

This is not my style of furniture, but I love the hutch because it is unique and fits with everything else. I like Celery's rendering. I would be tempted to paint, but see what you end up with as far as a rug and curtains. If this room is open to the living room you have to think about what's in there too before changing the wall color. Something warmer just seems in order.

When is the measure and the drawing, as photos recently added ( a couple hours ago ) do not tell the entire story. "Cozy", does not come from Black Leather reclining sofa and a black Eames style chair, either.!

Draw and MEASURE the entire space, please, walls windows, openings exactly where all are , their dimensions, and include the fire, of course.

If you want help, that is how you GET HELP.!

Put your couch if you have one opposite wall of the fireplace put chairs on both sides of the couch facing each other

You could put both chairs face in the fireplace they're SW I r a l

I would relocate my TV to that longer wall opposite the fireplace between the sliding doors and the dining room window

I added additional photos. maybe you can see the entire room better? i will measure. i promise. 😊 The house came with thd big tv on the wall. nice to watch tv, but not sure how to layout the entire space. We had the dark, purple sectional in a large living room. Not sure yet what to do.

Or can leave tv there & put 2 matching chairs facing fp that swivel.
