I've removed many a wall paper wall. That looks fairly easy. It doesn't get much cheaper. Why would anyone go to the bother of solid black wall paper when paint is cheaper and easier by10 to install?

The paper, put up in the late 90s, is an ostrich skin texture. It doesn’t show up in the photo but is very visible in person. Unfortunately, it’s not really in my budget to remove at this time.

I thought of neutral cream and gray.

Bring out all your decorative pillows from previous houses. Then look for a couple of black and brown pillow covers with some blue.

Throw pillows in the browns and blacks to pull the colors together.

A rug with black & brown, new art, a black built-in would be better than white. It doesn't sound like you intend to paint any of the other walls but we also cannot see the entire room nor what else is going into this room other than the 2 armchairs.

I like the brown and black. I don't like any of the blue you have in the room.

You can do dark on dark rooms but they have to be lit dramatically. Consider installing uplights inside the planters of trees.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to change out the art to something that incorporates both colors and maybe includes a 3rd color you can add. I don't think the blues are helping in any way.

I was thinking an animal skin print would work well, too. I might look for fabric and make or have made a leopard cover for the ottoman. It is fighting with both the black and the brown. Or cover with another fabric and get an animal print rug.

Yes — your black wall and brown chairs can absolutely work together, but right now they’re feeling a bit isolated from each other in the color story. You can bridge them by adding “connector” elements that share tones from both. Look for throw pillows, rug...

@JT7abcz truly nailed it. The green blue of the rug is so much more interesting than anything else posted below. The brown and black work but don't become the theme of the room. The chair color is simple enough to work as a neutral back drop of sorts. Don't make the brown and black become the bridge. Leave them as background.

well the doggies certainly have me convinced those chairs are comfy and will be staying.

If the upholstery is mohair, the brown chairs are worth a small fortune. Can't tell from the photo if that is the case.

Not necessarily your style, but just to show that black-wall-brown-chairs doesn't have to equal a dark room.

Remove the wallpaer if you love the chairs but where are the white cabinets going and too much missing info. Brown and black can work with a nice cream in the mix or even white if it is the right white I have no what this space is used for since I see a desk in an awkward spot . What looks like a TV inset on the white wall just not enough context .

I've seen some pretty good attempts here to blend the chairs and black wallpaper together but even those still don't quite reconcile the chairs and the wallpaper. If you don't want to remove the wallpaper would you consider painting it? That might be a viable option.

How about covering the chairs with throws in a black and white pattern? That would also help protect them from the dogs. I think the black wall is quite striking, but I'm not crazy about the blue pouf.

Attached is a photo to show how I married black and brown. Unfortunately, the brown in the pillow looks more yellow than it does in person. Note that both the pillow covers and the rya rug have both black and brown.

I agree with @Nancy R z5 Chicagoland. I am not really loving the light blue ottoman in this mix. Ottoman is good, always - and especially so if children afoot. But the light blue is not what I would choose here.

The hefty chocolate brown velvet chairs + the black wallpaper = luxe lounge dramatic; and then, the light blue art and ottoman are leaning sort of coastal beachy. I do not feel like it is working, style-wise.

Mind you - I am usually screaming from the

rafters: ”THE ART DOES NOT HAVE TO MATCH A SPACE.” And I mainly do believe that. However, in this case, I think that the black wallpaper is such a strong statement that it can stand on its own. Or if you did add anything on the wall, let it complement the vibe.

I think it could be very luxe - if you simplify your scheme.

But if you don’t like the chocolate brown and you don’t like the black - then consider changing something.
