My daughter has a similar set up. Floating shelves to the right or left of the chimney work. Nothing directly behind. She doesn't have the tile up the wall either. Her 'hearth' tile is proud of the wood floors which is a horrid toe stubbing hazard!!!

There are rules for how far a wood-burning stove can be from a wall or other combustible material like shelves or whatever is on them. I think without a heatshield, it's 3 times the diameter of the pipe. You should look it up. I would have a fire extinguisher somewhere nearby.

Oh yowza you don't have enough of a clearance to combustible surface on the side --- way too close to the carpet. On burning log rolls out onto the carpet and poof! your whole house goes up. And yes, it happens -- I've had my share of log rolls and flying embers. There is a reason codes exist. Look them up and apply them, or your insurance policy may be nullified if something happens because of the woodstove. (You do have a rider/policy endorsement on your homeowner's insurance, right? RIGHT?)
