In Search of impact-rated folding glass panoramic doors in Florida?

last month

We’re in the middle of planning our remodel and exploring options for large patio openings. Sliding doors were our first thought, but bifolds/folding glass sliding patio doors look really cool. We are in Florida so won’t have the doors open all the time, it would be nice and look beautiful to have the whole opening opened up!

Our initial search found that these doors are pricey and not all providers have a Florida approved system. We found a local company in Tampa called UFold Doors. Their folding glass doors are Florida approved and impact-rated. We looked at 3 other providers including Home Depot, Home Depot’s folding patio doors are not Florida approved or hurricane rated and it was difficult to get anyone to answer questions regarding configuration & installation. Panoramic Doors were decent and not sure why but when we went to their showroom 1 of the 2 doors on display was broken/inoperably and the hardware on the side of the door to release the panel from the track appeared to be made of plastic components. Origin doors looked nice and very similar to UFold but their price was nearly 70% more and that did not include installation!
UFold has a great product and curious what type of maintenance and maintenance issues you’ve experienced with your folding doors and have you worked with UFold before?

Would love to hear feedback from designers or homeowners who’ve gone this route.
