Excellent example! Now, how do you find a good lighting designer? Is there a professional designation for people who work in private homes? Most of the results I found seem to be for commercial spaces.

I found my professional, residential designer here on Houzz. She was excellent.

This is a good example of unintended consequences and/or not knowing what you don't know. People believe they can just pick stuff and throw it together.

I had a painter tell me that another client had asked him to adjust the tint in the paint for the corners of her room. From time to time I notice the darker wall color in the corners, but that just makes me think the client might have been a little much. (areas around picture frames show the same effect) But when you have a feature like that fireplace, wow what a difference!

The lighting design has to be completed before the electrician starts pulling wire and setting boxes and he's doing that right after the roof goes on.

Joseph, true. I guess I was thinking remodel vs new build (my bad.) Still helps if they know things like room orientation, window size and placement, etc.
