Help me decorate-Serena and Lily

last modified: 2 months ago

We are currently renovating our new home in Florida. A bigger home, bigger community, one town up from our current home.

i now have a great room to furnish. While I will be using my living room furniture, more on that later,I need to coordinate a breakfast nook and a dining area.

I will need also need bar stools for the island but want to concentrate on the first two areas.

I keep circling back to Serena and Lily so I thought I would start there.

I was set on the Riviera chair. When we went to the store, DH felt they were too small and uncomfortable. I then had to regroup.

What is happening so far: walls were skim coated and painted SW Alabaster with SW Pure White trim.

Floors are Coretec Calypso.

LVP always photograhs darker than it is. The above is the closest to how it actually looks in my home.

Thanks Dee. It is a small area, so no rug there. I need a new rug for the living area though.

The table has a glass top and I will also use place mats.

    First, congrats!

I’m not exactly sure of your question? Serena and Lily is lovely and of course perfect for a coastal home. IMHO their quality overall is ok not great .ive only bought soft goods and my k chairs. Have you seen the tables in person?

    How the two sides coordinate.

I have seen the table finish but in the round.

I have seen the round Wells chair.

I am getting a swatch of the Turbridge and have one of the Wells. The cane is just as pictured.

We are not hard on our things and at our age I’m not thinking major investment.

I am open to other ideas

There are quite a few furniture stores in SW Florida but some are out of my league.

If you aren't using a rug I wonder if the chair leg stain color, the table color and floor color are too similar? If the chair legs and table visually disappear into the floor the space might look bland.
It's hard to see texture in the photos so I may be off base!

    How the two sides coordinate.

I tend to feel that anything you buy from SnL will coordinate. I love that aesthetic so may be biased!

I always hear that FL is a great place to buy used furniture? Are there any good places for that near you? I might take a look, especially for non-upholstered items. But if you liked the table quality, then maybe you aren't interested in looking. I once considered a SnL table and didn't like it in person, but that was a few years ago.

Mtn,I did check a high end consignment shop near a tile shop. All white furniture, expensive for what it was.

    I think I prefer new.

Dee, I think your eyes will focus on the cane and the blue chair seat. The chair is a white stain so it is different from the floor.

Agree with Dee. The first thing I noticed was that the wood is the same color, which is an issue when you won't have a rug in the dining room.

Do you really need/want a breakfast table and a dining table and bar stools? I would set up one dining area and use the other space for something else. YMMV.

Fun2b, what else would go there? Across from the island is the living room space.

    I might forgo the stools.

Do you really need/want a breakfast table and a dining table and bar stools?

For parties, I think yes, you could need all three. Also, I see them as serving different purposes. Eg, bar stool for people to sit and help/watch me cook. "Breakfast table" is probably where I would eat most meals that were just DH and I. Dining table for holidays or more formal entertaining..

I would make the barstools low profile though

    Agree^^^

It is how previous owner had it.

Interestingly, this home’s floorplan originally had two walls around the kitchen. We did see this version further down the street. There are pluses to both but we liked this home’s view much better.

When all of the eating spaces are in the same room, I personally only need one table for eating. I would use one of the areas for an office or crafting space or music room or library. Again, that's just me.

But that is really just the nature of the great room isn't it?

Nice flooring choice and I like the direction you're going.

I don't know exactly where you are, but there are so many IDs and furniture stores in our area of FL. The only resale shop, like yours, is overpriced, but it carries new and used (which mostly look brand new). I did buy three low profile bamboo-like barstools there for our rental house remodel last year. The one large furniture store has a lot on the floor, but .I also went to a locally owned ID's store where they could order the same pieces for less. They stored for months until the remodel was finished before delivering. That was four beds, two night tables. Another ID business has two stores here and a few others elsewhere, their items looks all bright and shiny, but the quality is horrible.

Serena .& Lily items look nice online, but would you rather see in person? What about going to one of their southeastern stores - ATL, Naples or Palm Beach.

Allison, yes we have visited a store. DH did not like the Riviera. It was too small.

I’m wondering if they changed the size?

We will go back and they do have the Ross that we can try.The products look exactly like they do in the photos.

Apologies, I previously missed the store visit comment.
