Advice on achieving inspo kitchen cabinet (wood/color).

Hi everyone,

We are planning our kitchen renovation (full demo) and we are trying to achieve a look we've seen on here (Wine Country Luxury - that's linked, but I'll attach a photo at the end). So far, our cabinet maker is thinking its white oak and have shown us photos of what their white oak looks like (side by side of varnished and unvarnished, one photo of unvarnished). I like the look, but I am hesitant on the varnished color of it. They are telling us that to truly match the inspo pics, we should go with maple with a light grey/brown stain.

Other details:

- Our flooring is Athena from PG model (linked) - This is purchased

- Countertops are likely going to be Dekton Lucid (linked) - Still deciding

Questions: What is the right choice? We want that neutral, light look of the cabinets in the inspo kitchen, are we on the right track? Do we go for the white oak or the maple with the stain (we haven't gotten a sample door yet)?

Less important question - What do you think that material on the range hood fan is? Our designer is saying it's potentially cabinetry material (wood?) but our contractor says it looks like stone. I am leaning towards it being stone or tile. Wondering what you all think..

Thank you all for your advice/thoughts.

I willl update this post in the future with pics of the final project, in case others end up having the same questions.

    Your inspo is white oak

You want NEITHER of the samples you posted:

    : )

the hood is fluted and also white oak

I would say NO to maple, which does not love stain, will blotch and will go pink/coral.

I'd go back to drawing board.

You want the 250k-300K level of custom design that makes all of that possible. That starts with a knowledgeable and experienced Kitchen Designer who has cabinet makers and cabinet lines like that in her back pocket. No experimenting or internet searches needed. She’s done it before. So have the cabinet lines. The products exist without a search, and she would be horrified that you asked the net, when she has all the answers.

Do you want a great kitchen?

Post the existing with all dimensions, before "full demo"

That means every wall, every window, every opening with it's own dimension to the fraction of inches. Add pictures! ( jepegs, not screen )

If you already have a cabinet plan? Post it, the flat on paper version with every dimension for walls, windows each above and where openings lead

    What are the appliances ?

The rest of the finishes as well, in pictures, not links.

Kitchens BEGIN with layout and while it is fine/wonderful to have a flavor, a feel, a look firm in your mind of what you want? That's layout is where you begin, and there is much very wise advice here on Houzz. Free: )

To create the high end kitchen that you want requires the high end budget to do that. It can not be done inexpensively. You can still get a wonderfully functional kitchen on a budget, but the scarce high end expensive products won't be a part of it.

Thankfully the layout, appliances, etc are already all finalized. We are just down to deciding the cabinet front wood species and colour. I dont mind posting the cabinet plan, but I didnt want to distract with what we are really looking advice on. Thank you all for your input, it looks like we will look into our options for rift sawn white oak.

So no way to comment on actual plan means that even if it is bad you are stuck ? I really always design kitchens with all elements taken into consideration and that of curse means the cabinets since the style IMO drives the finish often. Your designer should know all the aspects of this replication and your contractor is not a designer . Sorry but I need to see the space and the plan

Good advice from Dani to get a box of your wood floors to use with the wood samples you are considering. Also, make sure you are 100% set on your countertop and floor decision before finalizing cabinet finish selection. And please make sure if you end up with Dekton that your fabricator has shown you numerous successful projects they have done.

The plans can still be changed, I meant finalized according to us (client). I’m not seeking advice on layout, we feel confident with those decisions. I am mostly concerned with the cabinet color. I plan to go back to the kitchen designer and express myself more clearly. Some commenters have responded to my questions, and I now feel equipped with the proper terms to better communicate what we want. Floors are purchased and we have picked our countertops, just waiting on finalizing cabinets. Thank you everyone for your input, its steering me in the right direction. We are definitely bringing our wood sample back to the kitchen designer, now that we are going back on our cabinet color.

The samples shared don’t match the picture. I would not be moving ahead. Please make sure they get this right or you will be very disappointed

"I’m not seeking advice on layout, we feel confident with those decisions."

: ) I could take a poll here and ask all who have been hanging around Houzz since 2009 how many plans for a kitchen got a tweak for better, in things you MAY not have considered?

Yeah..... admittedly we're nosy, love kitchens so there's that as well.

Plus, it is free and you're always free to ignore anything tossed out here.
