Help! small bathroom design

last month

Small upstairs bathroom- no window- looking for help with cabinet colors/style (would like durability of stain so if you have type of would and stain color suggestion that would be great) tile options, wall color and lighting fixture as well. Single sink for a 48” vanity but not sure what depth should be was what I was thinking. Also a tall vanity cabinet in back right of room maybe? Attached is picture of plan. While tile look tile is already installed and will be doing glass shower door. Let me know your thoughts- thanks!

Your post is a bit confusing--you show two sinks but then say one sink in a 48" vanity. Tile is already installed? What does it look like? What style do you like? It's difficult to give you any advice based on the info you've given.

  • last month

No- they just put that in the plan- haven’t ordered the vanity yet but did decide we only want one sink and not have it in the back corner like that. Thinking of a freestanding one in the middle of the wall?

Style of the house is not formal- leaning farmhouse look. Would like brushed nickel faucets but other than that open to any vanity/lighting/tile/ wall color combination suggestions

We did a similiar sized bath and I started by going to a locally owned tile shop to choose flooring and wall tiles - it gave me a place to start and usually the local folks are pretty knowledgeable

do you have a good tile pro lined up? I had to wait 5 months for mine but totally worth it

Why come now when the tile look tile???? is already is how much help can we offer ?

Am I correct that everything is installed but your sink and you need recommendations on wood type and stain? If so show us pics of the bathroom so we have some idea of what it looks like.

I don’t lile that the shower door and bathroom door don’t clear each other. Have you thought of french glass doors there instead?

I would skip the bathtub and shower and have one. Both takes up too much space .

Another bit of confusion--is that a small square shower next to the tub? I thought that was the linen closet. And it's only 31" square? That's very small. And where are you planning a "tall vanity cabinet"???? Please clarify.

So no I haven’t gotten vanity, tile , paint or lighting yet- or any thing other than the tub shower bc that had to be roughed in- there is a small broom closet immediately to the left when you walked into the bathroom. On the other side of the shower is the toilet. I wanted a freestanding linen closet for towels. What I am looking for is help with vanity style/ color, tile, lighting and paint suggestions. I liked this picture but not sure in a small windowless bathroom it would be too dark so looking for advice. To clarify this is the upstairs bathroom for two kids that are both in college so really only a few more years (?) of summertime use so not looking for advice on master (yet)

Draw the bath at 1/2 ” scale!!

As it exits! Mark exact drains and note if willing to move!

Why change an existing linen closet to anthing else/ especilly free standing!

I'd store towels on a rack/shelving above the toilet and utilize that unused space.

Do you have 93" x 126" I believe you do

    Use it!

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the broom closet was a teeny tiny shower! Hahahah.

A windowless bathroom need not be dark. The key to making your inspiration pic work in a small space without a window is to have enough bright lighting in the space. Is the electric in the room finished? Do you have recessed lights? Use recessed lights as your primary bright light. Add minimal though bright sconces at the vanity. Too much sconce can be too much in a small full bath.

I like the colors in your insp pic, but I think the floor is busy in a small space. Will you have a shower curtain or glass doors on the tub/shower combo?

I like this small windowless bathroom with dark vanity. The all white floors with white grout help bounce the light around and also makes the room feel much bigger than a printed tile. The light blue shower tiles bring a blue sky feel that you'd have from a window. Chrome finishes also help bounce the light. I appreciate the dark countertop too. It somehow doesn't feel too dark in here because the room is well lit and has the right color tiles and flooring. (Plus what room won't look great when you throw peonies in it?)

Here is another small windowless bathroom with dark vanity. I think it is a fail. Very clinical looking. The light is too cold, the walls too grey. HOWEVER, the dark vanity is handsome and doesn't make the room feel any smaller. It pops nicely against the creepy grey walls.

Thanks for the feedback- couple things: shower is already installed so can’t change that and plumbing is installed with a singe faucet so the dual sinks won’t work. i would like to keep the closet with a door on it for storage. my question is more around colors for tile, wall, and vanity stain wood and finish. what combinations of those have you seen that go well together?

That’s great Emily! Any idea what wood/stain combination that would be? Looking at Medallion cabinets but open to suggestions

What tile? Floor tile, shower wall tile, are you tiling any of the room wall?

Again, color really depends on your lighting. Where did you put lighting and how much?

For a smaller bathroom, a wall hung vanity does wonders to help make the space feel larger. Seeing the floor run underneath the vanity gives the illusion of more continuous open space.

ThisRoom and Board vanity comes in 9 colors with 10 top color options. Plenty of storage and it gets it up off the floor. They make it in a variety of sizes. Made in USA so no tariff.

Swap out the hardware for brass if you like that look better.

Great suggestion Kendrah! I had thought of an open mission style table leg vanity so it would be open underneath for the reason you mentioned. Wasn’t sure is the wall hung ones would look too modern but I like the one you have here with brass. So I am doing the lighting plan now so any suggestions on where/ what was thinking recessed to make sure there was enough like and will need one for shower (attached is the tub shower already installed). A suggestions for wall color/ tile on wall, floor tile and fixtures? Stain and wood colors too I would love to hear what people think

The bath is a secondary bath in your home

You are doing a Primary after this bath......

    You're over and under thinking

Go online.......find a few images of baths that "send " you

Those will be your inspo's. a look a feel.

Otherwise you will be here for a year of ideas.....Best way to "roomy" look ?Whatever you put on the bath for? You put on the shower walls.!! Too many ideas , too many tiles, will kill a bath in a heartbeat.

Save $$$ FOR YOURS - THE ONE YOU ARE IN daily.

Good advice- can you clarify what you mean by what I put on the bath floor I put on the walls? I’m assuming color not tile- and large tiles for a small bathroom?

    Glass doors or shower curtain?

    glass doors

I love white subway tile on the walls 2/3 of the way up. White hex on the floor. Smaller, not larger. Then paint the upper walls and ceiling the same color. Some magical blue that you love. Nice floating walnut vanity. Brass accents. Overtime, you can change the whole feel and color of the room with different paint color.

The vanity I showed is an Allen+Roth in the golden walnut finish.
