Struggling to pick a bedroom paint color

last month

I am in love with these curtains and want to match my bedroom paint to them.

I was thinking of a green, for the fern leaves, but so many of my rooms are already green or green-ish that it feels weird doing another green.

I like bold, rich colors. For my bedroom I want it to be soft, feminine, welcoming and warm. I was also thinking a beige to match the background?

My bedding changes regularly so I'm not designing around that. I don't have money for a new bed right now. The splotches are old attempts that I'm not a fan of.

I used BM essex green in the mockup. colors are tough with screens so try out a few different dark greens in the room first.

I would paint the room SW Reserved White, a white with a hint of green in draped light.

The bed and bedding would be a great feature in the room, if the room was neutral and tranquil. Is that the only option for the bed location?

  • last month

This is BM simply white which has a warm greenish undertone in my kitchen.

@Lyn Nielson no, it's not the only placement. If you stand facing the bed, there's a wall to the right where it used to be. With the door placement it made me feel a little weird. I don't like that this covers up the window but I feel better in my bed, if that makes sense. I do intend to replace the bed eventually.

With an LRV of 30, it’s a dark green

Think moody rose, not baby pink — something like Sherwin Williams “Dutch Cocoa” (but slightly lighter) or Benjamin Moore “Boudoir”.

Are all the items you select for this room going to be over scaled and bossy?

The bed is too much for the room.

Is there a different wall without a windows that could accommodate a bed and nightstands?

This room looks like a case of square peg being forced into round hole.

The curtains are light/soft/feminine and since you mentioned you love them, assume you are keeping. Suggest therefore painting the walls a soft shade and add warm/rich accent colors. Choose a green that doesn’t resemble the others and with different accents, room will have its own unique feel. Cozy is achieved with layered bedding, warm lighting and a rug. Bold by great cushions and art. Curious if bed can be placed elsewhere?

Hmm, you like bold, rich colors but you want your bedroom to be soft and feminine? That's somewhat in contradiction. My first suggestion is to move your bed from in front of the windows and away from the side wall if possible. The bed looks crowded in its present position. Decide on what other furniture you will need for the room to function well. Then decide on a color scheme. After that it will be a matter of accessorizing.

I think the obvious choices, being that you don't want a green, would be one of the reds in the curtains or picking up in the tiny bit of blue.

I may also go with a purple or violet gray that complements the pinks

If you change the bedding often I would choose a very neutral paint computer and focus on the bedding a the star

If you don't like the bed by the door, have you tried it on the other window?

Looking straight at the bed from the doorway with bedside tables and lamps on each side might free up the space in the room, rather than appear crowded. There are lots of rich greens to sample with your feminine curtains.

I agree with you - I don't want to match bedding and paint color because I change the bedding often, however, I selected white curtains and even though my bedding varies, there all work with purple and teal (the color of my guest and master bedrooms).

I wouldn't get an olive green or mustard color bedcover as it would clash with the walls.

Whatever you put on the bed will need to coordinate with both the curtains and the wall color.

I think to allow the curtains to decide the style of your bedroom is the wrong way around they are a statement and will for sure limit the choices for bedding and what the style is you are wanting.. I think a green from the drapes will be as nuetral and any color including beige. I love Healing Aloe BM cut it a bit to not fell to boxed in and it will work with the drapes if you keep all the choice for bedding in colors from the curtains no prints but maybe a stripe for plillows

I plan on getting a less dramatic bed. I can't afford what I want right now.

The room looks crowded, but it actually isn't. It's a BIG space, about 14x14. You can't see the whole room in the picture.

I could put it on the other window, yes. That's facing east.

@Jennifer Hogan my other bedding is an emerald green light quilt (summer) and a teal/pink duvet cover.

Please show all four walls of your room. Layout is often the way to solve color and style problems. Blocking that window looks awful.

Here's something to think about. The bedcovers and floors take up far more visual space than the curtains. But if those curtains dictate your choices, so be it. So paint the walls a paler version of the curtains. Bed cover, this one from Quince, dusty pink:

Pale green walls. Get a lighter tint of your curtains and use art and rugs throws to add saturated colors and patterns to the room.

    Rug in this palette:

If you love green (as do I), then go for green walls. Why would you feel weird doing the walls in green? You only have to please yourself! Besides, a monochromatic home is a really cool approach to decor. But most of all, just do what makes you happy. And if green makes you happy, then so be it!

I agree, I would go ahead and do what you like and not struggle with making the bedroom different just for the sake of difference. I also like the dark green.

Here's a couple more pics. There are two from the real estate listing and the other has my green summer quilt. I was thinking pale pink walls, but the one I picked was WAY too pink and my hallway (malted milk) looks pink in the lighting so I'm a little iffy on that

The room should be set up like the real estate listing. It would look far better that way.

That's the way I had it and, like I said, it was a little uncomfortable for me. I will try again though.

Generally in a bedroom if there is a long unobstructed wall, that’s where the bed goes and looks best. Most rooms also look better with the better not shoved against a wall unless it’s a child’s bed or the room is extremely small and it’s a day bed set up type.

I understand not wanting it on the door side, have you tried centering the headboard between the two windows? I know you said you love the curtains, but, you could put blinds (inside mount) on the two windows and keep the curtains on the single window, for a sleeker look if you put the bed on that wall. Even paint the two windows and headboard wall a deeper green.

Yes, I would also recommend centering the bed between those two windows. It would look balanced and more intentional. Also, although I am generally not a fan of pink, lately I've been seeing lots of images of homes decorated with very pale pinks and they are very pretty. For some nice blush pinks, Benjamin Moore has several (the names are links to the colors): "Pink Bliss," "Bridal Pink," "Shell Pink," and "Gentle Butterfly." Also look at Sherwin-Williams' "Intimate White."

The bed between the two windows would be my start. Your curtains can be used in the two windows using one panel on each outer side of openings drawn back to “frame” the bed and nice side tables. Then shades in the windows. Subtle bedding in the mix of a solid color from the curtains. How many panels do you presently own?

    Something like this set up

I would paint the bed ..for a softer look ..in this relatively smaller room…it would look more interesting..softer….not dictating all your other choices in style as the dark wood does

Any color…a gold metallic color ..or your favorite color….even white…

If you center it on the windows shown…each window may only need one curtain on each side…. swagged with one curtain and tie on each side…

Btydrvn that’s what I was envisioning as well.

Yes .. I think that would be enhance while not competing with the bed

    ?

Of course panels to the floor. May look very very nice! Hopefully the nightstands can fit to the inside without going all behind the nightstands. That didn’t look too good to me, but this layout could be worth trying. And in the image I posted, the dark curtain rods didn’t look too good to me? Distracting.

If keeping the comfrtr pick a color from it. A teal blue would be pretty!

Oh that's interesting about curtains only on one side of the windows! I didn't think of that.

I wish the bed didn't overtake the windows like it does. It's a king so even with a different frame and centered, it will still cover come up some of the windows.

Ya'll have given me a lot to think about. Thanks!

The curtains can be closed on the bed head side.

It’s ok if it covers up some, I think Diana K. Like how much you think? I’ve seen beautiful bedroom spaces that the headboard covers quite a bit of the windows. It’s all in how you dress the windows and nightstands then bedding from there.

I looked back at your photos, with your headboard making a statement between the windows, I think it could look very nice with your curtain panels on each side. Actually would be an easy try to see :). You may need to go higher with the rods, not sure how long your panels are but they are very pretty especially framing that dark headboard. You would not have to raise the rods yet to get the feel.

There is a beautiful dusty rose looks like in your curtains with your dark headboard could be an amazing paint color for the walls.

I was trying to find a pink to match and was struggling. I can keep looking. It'll end up being either pink or green, I think.

    Look at dusty rose colors

Pretty with olive green or sage walls!

. Here is dusty rose, unless your still with the greens. Headboard would show nicely and if you have other dark furniture. Not a pink but more mature vibe
