Ideas needed for long wall in family room

Need ideas for this long family room wall. I’m considering adding a mural of trees as shown in picture I’ve attached this would be just for the top half of the wall. Do you think this would look good? Is it easy to apply? There family photos above our couch so dont really want to do a gallery wall. thanks

I'm not a big mural person - however, I have seen some that look nice + I know that there are many people who like them.

I don't think that mural would work on your wall. Would you start it at the floor and then continue it on the wall over the shelf? That particular mural just seem to be made to be used on a full (floor to ceiling) flat wall.

I only want it on the top wall. it doesnt necesarily need to be this one, but I can’t think of any other ideas.

I wonder if the mural being interrupted by the lower ceiling area will look off. Perhaps use color and molding to break up the large expanse and center some large pictures (not family photos).

I think any wall treatment would draw attention to and exaggerate the soffet. I would try drawing the eye down with large leaning art for the ledge.

You don't want a gallery wall so a few unframed canvases would be interesting. One piece on the floor could draw the eye even further down and break up the ledge.

I found one kinda similar look:

Can you paint the utility door to match the wall?

We plan to get a white cabinet for the breaker box.

In our family room we have a cork board of school photos of each kid along one wall. We have their art along the other wall. We have an accent wall where the tv is and I have dreams of movie posters behind it but have not pulled it together yet! Other wall is windows and doors.

These are all great ideas. One of the hardest part a decorating for me is what to place on the walks

For me I wanted our family room to be about us and our kids. So we are all everywhere. Living room is more formalized with discreet photos and art.

This appears to be a foundation ledge usually found in basements or lower levels. I found an old houzz thread that had some ideas.

I really like the idea of using wood batten strips. As for the mural, I'm not sure it would work well on a wall like this, since it's not a flat one.

You are showing ONE wall of the room

    Easy Answer?

Make this wall the gallery wall, use uniform sizes

Single row, larger frames and mats - which beg more attention than a wall of clutter and small pictures. Edit is the word: )

PUT THE FOCUS ART OVER THE SOFA!! Bigger, and bolder

Easy peasy. But show the WHOLE : ) The room is more than this wall, right?

I'm thinking you might tire of the wall mural rather quickly. A gallery of artwork or photos would give you the opportunity to switch pieces out and maybe not tire of the looks so quickly.

Here are a few more photos The room is long and quite narrow. We have the couches, fireplace and sliding door on one end and the other end is mostly empty except at holiday time we use it for dining. You can see the half wall in these photos. Getting popcorn ceiling removal done this fall and flooring next year, so trying now to think of what to put on the walls.

" The room is quite long and narrow"...............

DRAW..............measure, post a jpeg, neat and legible sketch

Walls are solid, , windows, openings and dimensions for all and each and every one. .

Graph paper is fine : ) 1/4 " to one foot

That is the way to get more help.

So it looks like this is your main room? Your eating area is off it? If so I would not do a mural and would do organized art like Jan suggests.

This is our family room level. We use the one end for holidays so we can have a large table for our big group. The other end is the family room. Our other level of the house has our living room, kitchen, dining area.

Here is a mock up picture of the trees. Gallery wall a better idea?

Maureen, I especially like your suggestion. Is the photo a stock photo or an actual room? would love to know paint color.

Photo was on Etsy but no color was mentioned.

Found this BM shade that is close and link below provides its attributes. When looking at/comparing chips focus on your preferred undertone and be sure to test a few in your room.

Even though you have current family phots at the other end, for the end of the room used for holiday family dinners, I suggest that you add vintage photos of family members to the wall. How about the one of the aunts or uncles playing baseball when they were young? Or wedding photos, particularly of the various couples no longer with us? Or even silly ones of the cousins when they were young? Rather than precious originals, use scanned copies--maybe even enlarge some for dramatic effect. You could even include photos of varous houses used by the family. When the table isn't used for a big dinner, consider using it for jig-saw puzzles or games/

A mural of trees could look beautiful and add a calm, organic feel to the space—especially on the upper half of the wall. If you want a softer touch, you might also consider large abstract nature-inspired art instead. Pieces like this bring a similar vibe without overpowering your family photos.
