Speaking of mother-of-bride dresses

last modified: 24 days ago

This is the mother of a bride whom I know, in the version of the dress worn to the reception. There was a similar neckline in the church but it may have been a sheer piece that fit over the top, and the rest was covered by something like a satin bathrobe. The brides dress, once the train came off at the reception appeared to be a bustier with a transparent overlay on top and a transparent bottom.

Heavily redacted for obvious reasons. I don't know why it takes up so much room when posted. The 20 odd bridesmaids, no matter shape or build also had this bare midriff motif with a bustier style front that must have been held on with glue.

I removed the picture because I figure everyone who wanted to comment on it, has.

    What, no feathers?

Well, there were feathers at the reception, it looked like.

    Well, she doesn't look matronly!

    Yikes.

    Eeeewww….

Omigawd, thats horrific. Will make quite a wedding album for future generations.

I can’t imagine anyone looking at the wedding album 20, 30, or more years later and being proud of that.

    How very …… unfortunate.

It's as if she was channeling Cher.

    I am speechless!

But my fingers still work, what were they thinking……..

    My eyes hurt!

    A very bold choice…🤷‍♀️🧐

Pal, no one can say that you don’t know interesting people.

In my work I meet and interact with 30 new people a year, so...

BTW, the wedding party, including the bride, groom, and their parents was 46, 48, something like that.

Oh my. Not matronly is the only not nasty thing I can think to say. Yikes.

You should have introduced them to the monthly outfit threads before the wedding. We would have been happy to give our help and save them from these unfortunate results.

    😳

I'm stunned. Not even sure how you might sit down in that outfit.

Fascinating. Where does one buy something like that?

I don;t think you could buy anything in the wedding party.

The bride would frequently show outfits on FB that were custom designed and made for her, and some of the things her friends wear are obviously one offs as well. So I am sure the entire female wedding party had custom designed and fabricated dresses.

The bridesmaid dresses had sheer midriffs with the vertical ribs as well, and tops with full decolletage that must have been held on by adhesive, and since there were a lot of implants in the bridal party they were kind of gravity defying.

The brides dress although it had some skin tone lining looked like a solid corset/bustier with a completely sheer bottom of lace starting from the waist down and sheer up to the neck and sheer sleeves. The train covered her bum but I know part of the train came off as well. So I think the back looked like a thong of lace and was exposed at the reception

    Yikes.

I wonder if the bride was on board the the MOB dress.

I think the MOB is proud of her body and will still think that way looking at the album in 20 years. Of course at that point she will probably be in a human size jar of formaldehyde

When did weddings go from being a sacred rite to being a stripper-circus???

The mother of the bride dress and the bridesmaid's dresses had the same sheer midriff with vertical boning so they carried that same theme. The female wedding party attire was all designed by the same person. I think the bride comes up with the concept of a lot of her clothing and then a tailor who knows pattern making comes up with the execution.

I have seen a lot of outfits on FB and believe it or not she is a little more conservative than her friends are. Of course she is also about a size 2-4 so she does not ever look like she is bursting out of her clothes like some of her friends. Some of their implants stretch the skin so tight it looks painful.

I REALLY want to see the bride's dress and these bridesmaid dresses that defy gravity! However, I understand that you are being discreet - but if you think that there is a way to share the dresses that would be great (maybe just show the top and bottom separately?). If you don't feel comfortable, I understand.

My sister got remarried this past weekend - her dress was shorter (second marriage) and no bare or see thru fabric. However, one of my new BIL's close friend's wife was wearing something that was a bit shocking (and no one would ever refer to me as a prude/conservative). Her dress was SO short (actually, it was a skort bottom - but it was so "flowy" that it still looked/functioned like a dress).

She had a habit of bending over from her waist (instead of bending her knees) to talk with her mom (who was in a wheel chair) - and there were quite a few eyes watching - however, I ruined it for all of them because I saw the black boy shorts/slip shorts that she had on under the dress. I think I made some guys sad when I shared that she was wearing those for her undergarments (or that she was wearing undergarments at all - 😂).

The front of the dress was VERY LOW cut - and she had very large implants - and just like pal wrote above, all I could think about was how her skin was stretched so tight that it looked painful! I kind of had this overwhelming feeling of wanting to "pop" them!

On the one hand I do want to be discreet, but on the other hand there are Hundreds of pictures in social media because of the number of guests.

Here is mother of bride dress again.

And here are 4 of the 20-21 attendants all of whom wore this dress except the flower girl.

I don't see obvious implants here but they are at least 3/4 lip enhancement and 4/4 botox

And this is with the train off on the bride's dress. That is her bum exposed.

Go on Reddit in the r/weddingdress forum and you will see all kinds of sheer bodices, visible boning, corset looks, and very deep V's in the front and leg slits. This is not my style but this is super popular right now.

Why don’t they just go naked? It would be cheaper. Use the money for something else.

    But she wore white.😍

I couldn't wear that around my father and grandparents, much less my siblings and other family members.

Wow. I have to wonder what makes a bride want to basically be naked at their reception? That cannot be normal!

I also wonder if any of the bridesmaids objected, or were uncomfortable, with the chosen dress.

I think the bridesmaids probably loved their dresses, based upon what I have seen of some of their wedding related parties.

There are some obvious problems with the dress on the girl on the right. It doesn't have the neatly wrapped bandage waist and hip area, and it does not look like it is sheer where the boning is like it is on the smaller women. It looks like there is a lot of foundation there but it makes this area look very opaque compared to the others.

With a wedding party this large, and with a number of plus sized women in the party, and the amount of planning and expense that went into this wedding, there probably should have been Three dress styles.

Because despite looking more like something to be worn on Dancing with the Stars or something they were very well made and fit very well on the other 3 women in the photo, who were neither too big nor too small to fill it out properly--and even on one of them the boning does not quite give that concave sort of boning effect that is ideal. And in addition to there being a number of larger women in the party, there were a number of women who were too rectangular to look their best, and three were a few with even larger breasts than the girl shown where the bra part of the dress was just not adequate looking enough. So there could have been three variations to fit three body types anyway.

And the bride's dress fit like a glove, too. It was very nicely made as was the headpiece, and if it weren't going for the nude below the waist look, it was a pretty dress. There must have been some way that this dress could have transitioned from not sheer to sheer on the bottom and still given the same general effect.

The other thing was that everyone in the wedding party had their hair done in a nearly identical elaborate style which didn't flatter everyone the same way.

And it was also kind of strange to see 20 + women, some related and some not having very similar facial features because they have almost all had some kind of plastic surgery, at the very least lip enhancement and botox and in addition some with filler, nose shaving, and eyes tweaked as well as implants. And many of them not yet 30. One of the women who was already very strong featured actually looks like a male to female transgender drag performer, her face looks so artificial. And I know she is only the brides age (26?-ish?)

Yes, it's also fairly common that some people will put an additional liner in the bodice so it is less sheer. Why someone wants to be nearly n*de at their wedding is beyond me, but this is where we're at. I try not to judge.

    Yikes!

The bride's gown is by Tom Sebastin. MOB by ASHLEYlauren. (Style 11958). According to the bride's comments on TT, she selected her mother's gown (lots of negative comments from those assuming it was the MOB's choice and that the bride would not/did not like).

FYI: I am not on TT, but you can find, see and read w/o an account.

How were the male attendants attired?

The mother of the bride wore two dresses, this was for the reception only. It retails for about $1500.

The Tom Sebastien gowns are custom made for the bride, so it looks like you can start out with a style (many of which have this sheer, nude underneath look--hers actually provides a lot of coverage) and customize it from there. I didn't see on exactly like it but I also didn't look for a long time

One store said they had Sebastin gowns (Off the Rack only) for $6000-10,000.

The bridesmaid's dresses were similar to a few Ashley Lauren dresses but I could not find the exact one.

The men wore very simple black tuxes.

Actually I found the Tom Sebastien gown. One without any modifications retails at $16,000.

Hers was modified to have a removable train. And I think the train was shorter.

I think most brides, bridesmaids, and mother-of-the-brides want to look beautiful at weddings. But what is "beautiful" seems to be different for different people and the sexy side of beautiful seems to have become more and more prevalent in the last decade or so. Call me silly, but I do like to look at bridal fashion from time to time and for probably at least a decade I've been seeing bridal gowns that are over the top sexy, sheer bodices, extremely low backs, extremely revealing bodices, etc. Some brides will have two dresses: a ceremony dress that's more covered and a reception dress that's more revealing for the fun party.

The bridesmaid dresses don't surprise me at all. But I am shocked at the mother-of-the-bride dress and even more so at the bride's sheer skirt. Wow!

The MOB dress reminds me a little of Isabella Rosselini in Death Becomes her. Jenna Ortega recently wore a tribute gown to the Emmy's.

Regarding the bride, the "naked dress" style is back on the red carpet, recently notably on Margot Robbie. Similarly exposed bum.

Fall of Rome ... I've been saying that for years but I really think we are at a tipping point.

Red carpet is a completely different setting, I kinda think in that setting it's whatever you can get away with, with a few limits of course.
