Patio cover and main roof trim paint

last month

Hi. I am in the middle of renovating the exterior of the house. I want to give it a modern farmhouse look with a tropical vibe. The colors are wood, grays, graphite, white and greens. The shingles are dark gray. I want to paint the main roof trim (gutters, soffits, fascia, drip edge) and the patio cover trim. Not sure if I should paint paint it white, black or gray. I'd appreciate your advise.

I confess that I have never heard the combination of words "modern farmhouse with a tropical vibe"!! :) It looks like a cute ranch that you are updating (or de-Grandma-ing).

Will more than the garage door be green? Wood posts and shutters are carrying the "farmhouse" here? I'd like the roof trim to differentiate itself from the wall color below, but not make itself a whole event, so maybe a gray shade a bit lighter than the roof?

Paint the trim, fascia etc. white. The old wood shutters are not carrying the modern farmhouse look. Popular modern farmhouse designs usually do not have shutters, but if you are in a tropical area where hurricane shutters are needed, look at new housing developments to see how they are installed.

New housing developments in FL use hurricane glass, so no shutters needed. Older homes have metal or "plastic" panels that get screwed over the windows during hurricanes or left on for hurricane season. These days no one relies on actual wood shutters for hurricane protection.

Thanks for info, Chispa. The newer hurricane shutters are quite different from the styles popular on traditional New England houses.

Front door and garage door are greenish. I was looking for sage color but I like how it turned out.

There was a big metal awning over the front wall window but it looked bad and blocked sunlight so I removed it and made those temporary wooden shutters out of an old fence but I need to get it redone. I like the look of wood so I'll make similar style. A lot of pople passing by are actually asking about these. It's more of a decorative purpose than hurricane protection.

I am also thinking of putting something on the front wall gable.

I would paint the drip edge and roof trim gray, so it makes the roof look more finished.

Same with the porch roof trim.

The garage door is very tropical in the bright sunlight, Paint your trim white.

Natural posts help warm it up. I'd paint the porch ceiling a soft, light sky blue color.

if you are keeping the shutters, make them the same color as what you choose for the posts.

I don't see farmhouse and tropical together, but if you're bent on it, then use native plantings to enhance the look. I'd remove shutters--sorry--then paint front door coral or light blue.
