Amazon is selling Distant Drums in 2 qt. pots at $34.99, free delivery (possibly Amazon Prime is necessary for free delivery... needs to be checked). The grower is Ma Cherie Roses, whose website seems to be above board, although I have not patronized them yet. They are located in California.

RVR also has it on sale for $21 plus $20 shipping. l will get one from RVR likely

Great color in your blooms, Markay! Could be that Purple Prince has chameleon properties, changing according to: climate, zone, shade or sun, care level, etc....

The mailing charge seems high for DD from RVR. What I like about an Amazon purchase is that refunds for just about any good reason are easy to get, so if DD comes through unsatisfactory, you are not going to have issues with getting refunded. No returns are possible to California, where Ma Cherie is located, so that hassle is eliminated.

Also, RVR bands are 3" x3" x 5.5", a pint or so of volume. Ma Cherie roses are 2 qt. size.

Why not give Ma Cherie a call and question them....nothing like talking to the seller personally.

I hope your Distant Drum arrives in tip top shape and that it exceeds your expectations. If not, and I'm really thinking p,ositive, you have a very good safety net with Amazon purchases. My niece has a Distant Drums that when I first saw it in bloom I couldn't believe my eyes....such a remarkable color, and it's a pretty vigorous bush, too.

Jeff Bezos did not get as wealthy as he is by running a company that leaves its customers unhappy and disappointed with their purchases.

My niece's Distant Drums is own root. The bush looked great and in lavish bloom the last time I saw it.

I have a grafted DD that is lovely. 2 years ago took a cutting, it rooted, and now you wouldn’t know which was which!

My niece's bush had remarkably healthy, vigorous growth and at the time it was already fall, so if it was black spot susceptible it would have been pretty leafless by then. She does not spray.

Looks good, forever a newbie. 6 nice canes pointing out pretty symmetrically is better than most young own root roses. Is it going into the ground at this time? In your zone 8 Virginia you must be near the coast, close to the NC border. Keep me posted, much success to you.

Thanks, Moses. will leave it in the pot and maybe put them in a big pot of leaves and compost. I am concerned about the voles and moles in the winter. Next spring I will try to take some cuttings just in case
