A sconce and a horse eating a hat

I’ve missed you! I hope everyone is doing well. I was absent due to computer issues, having covid and strep throat at the same time (still lingering), and other life events. I so appreciate the kind words when I wasn’t able to post. 🤍

Some decor news ….

I finally got a sconce up in the guest room and am so thrilled with it (I posted about it a few months ago [LINK] and received great placement advice here, thank you!). I also got a new quilt, as my beloved vintage Matelasse needed to be retired and I couldn’t find another one I liked.

The sconce is from Magnolia; it was on sale for $70 (before shipping and taxes). The quilt is from The Company Store — also on sale at the time, sorry I can’t remember how much, but a great deal.

DH and I wanted to hang our sweet vintage horse print in the scalloped spotlight:

I wish the photo quality was better, sorry. I swear it looks really looks nice in person.

Now I’m looking for a small vintage table for under the sconce. Something like the one below. DH and I love, love hunting for things like this, so it’ll be fun looking. The other nightstand is a piece from Mexico my dad gave me years ago. You all know I love mixing styles, and especially love things with history.

We might replace the macrame above the bed for one piece of art (not sure since we have a gallery wall of unique art on the wall opposite) and we need thermal curtains on the window for winter. It’s a challenging window for curtains, with the deep window seat. That room gets pretty cold, so it’s function over form in this case.

PS: I wanted to replace the nightstand lamp with something more Pooky/English cottage style, but DH said no way. He’s very attached to that lamp. :D

Anyway! I’ve probably reached my photo limit here, so will post about the horse hat in comments. :)

As you can see, you have been missed!!! The lamp is wonderful and the quilt-so cozy and perfect. I want them both. ;-) . I adore the Horse Eats Hat poster. I think I really need that, too. Relax and enjoy all your changes while you continue to get well!

That poster makes me smile every day. :) I ordered it from this site:

    https://vintagraph.com/products/horse-eats-hat?srsltid=AfmBOoqS2daI1EJ20qLGaQ8x5ehXIlNxyq3OeJyHiSdawKyLO23V-Ju6&variant=40368066887726

I’d never heard of them before, so wasn’t sure how it would go, but am super pleased with the transaction.

Ida and I mused on what kind of frame to get, so many would work. We both imagined a cool and hip Art Deco frame, but couldn’t find one. I decided to just go with a sort of rustic wood frame for the particular room it’s in (and being horse-y). :)

Howdy! 🤠 Welcome back! Sorry to hear you've been sick.

I started a post, years ago about that table. I purchased it in a square shape. I put a white veined marble-look tile top on mine. Pal knew the original maker, it's a knockoff of a classic....

Lizbeth, I’ve been moving that table all over the house. It would be good for a drink table next to Olive 1 (one of my velvet sofas). But I kind of like it in the guest room for a purse or whatever. That room is so tiny and the bed so big. :D

Indigo Rose, it’s so cozy at night! I can’t wait to find the little table for that side. :)

Such a cute sconce! The new quilt looks great on the bed. Such a cozy room.

When you mentioned curtains (prior to horse art install photo), I thought having the curtains to each side (on walls) was the answer. Does anyone really sit in the window? With the art on the left, it seems installing inside the window niche is the only answer.

    Glad you are feeling better.

Thank you, Allison, Outside, Mtn, orchid, and Ks! 🤍

Allison, my lamp! I’ve always loved it. :)

The door stop is so old, I can’t even remember where I got it. It’s very heavy cast iron. Close-up of my old, handsome boy:

Re: the curtains — placement is the dilemma. You said my first thought, having them on the outside. But the room is so tight, I just wonder if they’d take up too much visual space. Does that make sense? What do you think about a French return rod a few inches above the window and the curtains puddling on the window seat just a tiny bit?

Would you just come do them for me, please? Your curtains are always so exquisite and that’s not my forte! :D I love that window, but man it is a challenge!

Mtn, glad to! Here is mine, I got ”oatmeal”:

    https://www.thecompanystore.com/pintuck-tufted-cotton-quilt/51452Q.html?dwvar_51452Q_color=OATMEAL&cgid=ein-bedding-type-bedding-quiltsandcoverlets-solid

I’m very happy with it … not too heavy, not too light. It’s has a more tailored look than I was wanting for that room, but has grown on me. Ida had to listen to me go back and forth for days! Maybe weeks. :D

I considered this one, after seeing it on IG:

    https://www.thecompanystore.com/company-cotton-solid-color-scalloped-quilt/51489Q.html?dwvar_51489Q_color=WHITE&dwvar_51489Q_tcs_quilts_2024=TWIN%2FTWIN%20XL

    On IG:

But I’m not a fan of the edging pattern up close:

Ahhh, the Matelasse search. I’ve literally searched for years for another one. I didn’t care how much it cost (not usual for me), and won’t even consider one not made in Portugal. My beloved was made in Portugal and I got it over 30 yrs ago for our first house. It’s soft as butter, has the perfect softly scalloped edge (I don’t like sharp, overly defined ones), and a very subtle pattern. Before retirement:

Sigh. Lots of memories! It has graced many rooms over the years.

I did see a Ralph Lauren one months ago that was a contender, but decided it wasn’t The One.

orchidrain, you made me rethink keeping my macrame! We have plenty of art in this room, so maybe I need the soft and lightweight qualities it adds. :)

Ks, I’ll tell Ida! She just got back from a wonderful trip and of course always finds unique treasures for her gorgeous home!

Allison, some more horse decor in there ….

This ring was in our barn when I was growing up. We usually just hung a halter or lead rope on it:

I found this whimsical little mid-century trinket dish at the antique mall:

This art was from an online company in NY that sold pages from old books. They seem to be gone now, which is sad as they had some really unique items. Iirc, my page is from the late 1800s:

Ha! I thought the fence was the front leg lifted. Couldn't even tell it was a fence on my phone. Lesson learned. The horse head ring is lovely. I'll take the print as well. ;)

Also cannot tell the room dimensions in photos. In that case, on the wall would just close it in more. I had French return rods in our last house, loved them. I am not a puddle person, but then I've almost always had cats.

    Jilly thanked Allison0704

    Thanks, Allison!

I agree with you about puddling with cats. Same here. :D

I think the room is around 10x11, plus a small entry area. Tiny room for a queen bed with hefty headboard and footboard. The closet has lots of storage … good thing since there’s no room for even a chest or dresser!

Sounds like our smallest guest room (12x13). I squeezed in a queen canopy bed (DD said I had to keep since that's where they slept at Gma's house), a small two door armoire, two small night tables and a vintage shallow table by window. There is not much room between the bed and armoire. A large chest of drawers that came with the house is in the closet. This has became my sleeping quarters after DH fractured his back. It is nice and cozy.

Goodness, Allison, I’m sorry to hear about your DH’s back! Sure hope he’s recovering well.

Ahh, I love canopy beds, had one as a girl. I know yours must be a beauty … and I love that your DD has good memories of it. I wish I had my grandmother’s antique bed.

My DH sleeps in our guest room when his snoring is ramped up and says it’s very cozy in there. I might sleep in there myself to see. :D

The bed was my DD’s, but she didn’t want to take it when she moved out. I was going to sell it on MP, and this board talked me out of it. I’m really glad, it’s very nice and well-made. Can’t tell in my awful pics, but it has a subtle aged/rubbed black and brown finish.

I was more shocked she didn’t take her zebra pillow! She, her late dad, and I were browsing Pier 1 one night when she was a kid, and she had to have it. It makes me happy in there, thinking of those days. :)

Sweet memoriy, Jilly. I bet she asks for it one day.

Thanks. It has been awhile, and at that time he was told it had been fractured previously as well. He thought that one was a pulled muscle. So he is not a good sleeper. I did not realize how much my sleep was disturbed by his nighttime movements.

I used the canopy bed in a guest room in our last house, so you've seen at some point.

Awful, Allison. Back pain is so terrible. My DH has back problems (sciatica), but nothing like what yours has had to endure. :(

I meant to ask you — do you still have that awesome paper towel dispenser? It was pottery style and enclosed the whole paper towel roll. I’d like to get one for my dad. :)
