Tiny home in New Orleans

last month

Hello everyone. I’m looking to build a 45ft shipping container home in New Orleans. And I have made some progress . Right now, having trouble finding a reasonable price licensed architect or engineer to stamp my plans, modify then or do them. I am trying to do this project on the low and as diy as possible Any help would be appreciated

My advice would be forget this plan . It is neither cheap or diyable in most cases. Then there are the permits you need too. You will probably be better off checking out tiny homes that are up to code. Architects who do these are hard to find too.

Contact schools in your area with architect programs. Offer your project as learning opportunity for students.

It will never get permitted because they meet zero building codes without massive expensive changes. A shipping container is a large barrier to creating a safe and comfortable home, with low expense. 𝑵𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒑 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅.

Container homes are for young and strong, who don’t care if a cabin reeks of chemicals, has insulation, has hvac, or even if it has room to have a bed and a toilet. Youngguy also has to have with a buddy with a crane to even set up that ”hard side tent living”— where there are zero building codes.

That does not surprise me. Just because someone else did it does not mean it was a good idea. You may have been ill advised. Think bigger and better.

Every time I see people post about container homes, I always get the prepper vibe, but without any actual skills to be a prepper. Wannabe prepper, but doesn't own a screwdriver and can't lift a 5 gallon pail.

Take a deep dive into your plans as a best-case scenario and look critically at cost-effectiveness. If this were cost-effective, it would be happening much more than it does. I'm skeptical.

Is it easier to take your shipping container home with you if you vacation in China??

OOOPS no info from OP seems to be the norm lately. I wonder if they take 2 days to answer a text too.

Maybe they have other things to occupy their time. Lots of people here are retired or don't have jobs outside the home, so they're more responsive.

I guess that is true but really we take time to answer they should take a few moments to reply . I am trying to be kinder I just lost my husband of 60+ years he was a kind gentle person so I will try harder.

First visit the NO building permit office to get a copy of the codes that you will need to comply with. A shipping container won’t meet any of them, and requires too much expensive alteration to begin to do that with paid labor doing the conversion. With a result that incredibly substandard to a 1950’s shotgun that you just gut to the studs and renovate.

Patricia Congratulations on the 60+ years of kind & gentle marriage. Few people achieve that. My first was 27 years and it wasn't so kind or gentle. My second is 10 so far, but it is so kind & gentle if it were to end tomorrow it would be 60 compressed into 10.
