How to cover red sharpie on walls the right way?

We are at the end of a bathroom renovation project. I will be painting the walls and ceiling, which i am comfortable doing.

My question is how do I cover red sharpie on the walls? The GC (husband) wrote notes to the plumber and electrician on the walls in red sharpie.

Will regular Kilz work? I am worried the red will bleed thru.

Sourcing supplies requires advance planning as we live 45 minutes away from the property and the closest hardware store.

The home I purchased had so many challenging stains that I feel like I have become an expert in this field.

While searching for some answers on various marks I saw a video where a paint contractor shows what worked and didn't work on various types of ink. (His children must go largely unsupervised). I saved it to my favorites because I knew I wouldn't remember what worked when I needed it.

He found that Zinsser Cover Stain was the best product for covering permanent marker and most any other type of marker. Some markers bled through the shellac based primers, some bled through the water based primers, but none bled through the oil based Cover Stain primer.

Google, and probably other similar sites will sometimes show an AI generated response that you are free to ignore, but the other results are not AI, they are simply links.

If you had searched, and done just a bit of reading, and maybe some testing yourself of the recommendations presented, you would have your answer.

Sharpie can easily be removed with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. It will dull the paint, but you're repainting anyway.

What are the walls made of? Can you sand it off?

I would try to remove as much as you can, and then prime the spot with a shellac based primer.

Update - Alcohol took off 90% of it, there is a still a faint pink "shadow" but I think magic eraser and primer will do the trick. Thanks all!

I got black Sharpie on my kitchen floor. Found out that you can use suntan lotion to get it off! I was amazed!
