(NOV.) NUTTY NOVEMBER with the FOTESS Group

last month

FOTESS is a group that requires you to be approved for membership so contact me if you are interested and not a member at this time. The name FOTESS stands for Friends of the Earth Simple Swaps. We have a theme we post each month. Usually there is a swap of some sort (cards, seeds, small gifts) but we also share photos, garden information and other ideas. All swaps are within the U.S.

Our theme for November is NUTTY NOVEMBER. That will be very true at my house with a lot going on. Many of us will be celebrating Thanksgiving and most of the time it seems Christmas preparations begin in November also. Meanwhile we are getting our plants settled to make it through the winter, planting bulbs, raking leaves and there's a lot to do everywhere.

As always, we hope you come by to discuss what is going on with your garden and just in general. There will be a game this month and I will post the details shortly. It's a PHOTO Scavenger Hunt.

Wishing everyone a Happy November!

Fall door decor....I had already pulled it down last Saturday off the front door....a quick rehang on a bedroom door......

Annie, Try something closer to the item listed - street sign or roadside sign. Hope that will work for you. I was stopped at the red light and since I was the 3rd car stopped I took a picture out the front window before driving forward. Lots of signs with Cary along the road, but I didn't want to park and walk to them to take a picture. (Unfortunately I doubt you can read the letters on the street sign on my picture.)

Having fun looking at the pictures. Thanks for joining in. Are the leaves changing color where you live? We had a few nights drop into the 40s so color is appearing. Love the look of fall!

    3. clock (in honor of the time change)

    4. calendar for 2026

    5. Something baked

Hope everyone is doing fine. We had a really nice day today but right now it's pouring. Sure wish I had walked the dog earlier. She always gets a before bedtime walk. Maybe the rain won't last too long?

Jeanne, the leaves are turning and falling here.

Early morning is expected to be down to 34 degrees.

Right now is 48, feels like 37.

I think yesterday was 81. Welcome to Texas weather.

I spent my free time today taking cuttings of some plants, picking all my ripe peppers and tomatoes and covering some plants. Everything has done so good this year I'm not ready to give them up.

Will work on pictures later. The "something baked" may have to be later in the week.

The temperatures here will be changing, too. They say Monday night will drop down into the 20s and there is the possibility of some snowflakes over night! The past two days were really nice although we did get a few showers but they didn't seem to last too long and we need rain so it's all good.

Thanks for mentioning the baking I made brownies a day or two ago and there is one left so I'd better take a picture of it before I eat it!

    3. A Bell

    4. Something Brass or Brass colored

    5. Flag (Garden or Any Other Type)

How is everyone doing? Things have been crazy here.

Leaves are dropping by bushels at the house. We've had 2-3 days where the temperatures were higher and the sun was out My tropical hibiscus still has 2 buds on it. I sure hope it can make it through the winter out on the balcony. I'm going to see if all but the tomato, basil and pepper plant can survive out there. Maybe - maybe not!

You are all fine with what you posted. It's fun to see the things you see everyday so we can share with some of your special decor.

Posting mine today so I won't be late again. I guess my pictures were too large so I collaged them. The soup bowl was a gift I received. Of course it's in the shape of a coffee cup. Believe me - too large for that but it's great for soup.

Is anyone else cooking Thanksgiving dinner? This will only be my second year doing the turkey and dressing and of course some other things.

Would love to hear what vegetables you will be having or usually have for Thanksgiving dinner.

For me usually (now sometimes down to 4 but it varies) mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, lima beans, green beans with almonds, corn, carrots

We haven't decided yet what we'll be doing for Thanksgiving, but these are my normal vegetables, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn pudding/casserole. One daughter prefers green bean casserole instead of regular green beans, loves sweet potatoes and brussel sprouts. Grands and DH are not fans of the last three.

Might be everyone is too busy for Week 4, but here goes (Week 4: Nov. 23 - 29)

    1. Turkey

2, Something that arrived in the mail announcing a holiday sale

    3. Gravy Boat

    4. Any Type of Pie

    5. Thanksgiving or Fall Napkin (Cloth or Paper)

Remember that things like the turkey can be a design on a dishcloth or Thanksgiving card, etc. or as food or the real bird. Same with the other items.

    Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

Next weekend - probably Sunday - I will post the winner of the Scavenger Hunt.

It's that time of year again. I posted a heading for sign ups as Hostess in 2026. I hope you can help out. I will be happy to fill in and do some myself but I wanted to give you an opportunity to sign up for a month (or more) of your choice.

My pictures aren't cooperating in going from my cell phone to my computer, but here are two. No pie yet, but my daughter will be bringing one tomorrow and I'll try to remember to take a picture. I did take a picture of an ad that came in the mail but it's one that doesn't want to travel from the phone to here.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!

I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving Day. This was my second time cooking the turkey and dressing and my family helped with some of the rest of the meal. Everything was wonderful! I can't believe it will be the end of November so soon.

wow lady apples are so expensive Ruth. Hope everyone was able to enjoy Thanksgiving and create moments to cherish with those you hold close to your heart.

Ruth, you are the winner of the scavenger hunt. Great job! I appreciated everyone playing and Annie and Nicole were right on your heels. I'll get a little gift out to you soon, Ruth. Annie, Nicole and Amy - thanks for playing and I'll send you a card and tuck-in for participating. Loved seeing the pictures.

Ruth, I've never seen such expensive apples. Wow! I did buy oranges one time and saw they had traveled from Australia. Sure seems like a long way to ship produce.

Anyway, sorry I didn't tally things yesterday. I started decorating for Christmas on Friday so today was the 3rd day working on it most of the day. Will likely take two more days to complete since I haven't decorated my tree or balcony yet. From year to year I had been just hanging the same wreath on the front door. This year I pulled off the bows and decorations that were mostly green and put "new everything" on it in red and white. What a difference!

Thanks Jeanne for a wonderful November......

    Ruth, congrats!!

I thought the apple price was a joke!! I don't buy apples but could not believe that the price was for real. WOW!!
