Exterior color palette for red brick rambler addition

last month

Hi, I'm looking for advice and inspiration for exterior colors for my home addition. We are leaving the red brick on existing house but I'm struggling with siding colors and trim to match. I would prefer not to change the white window color because we are already overbudget but would consider if I really loved the look. My favorite style is MCM but I haven't really pulled that off with this renovation as much as I wanted for the front elevation. The back addition is a little more that style. Would appreciate any help with color selection. I have attached some renderings with dark versus light color schemes. Don't love either. The black trim is so foreboding! Red brick is painted in the white scheme but want to stick with the unpainted brick. First picture is the OG house :)

exciting project! i don’t love the white in the forested location, seems a bit stark and out of place.. are you stuck on black or white? I’d be thinking sagey greens or warm greys, have you chosen your roof color yet or no?

I don't like the dark gray and black --- it's too gloomy. The light gray and white is pretty boring. If you want any kind of MCM look, make the porch posts straight up and down and have natural wood shingles or a warm brown.

Agree that safety greens or warm greys would be amazing.

grays have been done and over done.

Muted greens go well with brick red.

Thanks everyone. We are not committed to the dark or light. That is just what colors our architect has played with. The roof is black, architectural shingles since they are not replacing entire roof (existing is pretty new). I don't love sage in general but see what you are saying about the white and dark standing out too much. We actually live in suburbia but are blessed with beautiful oak trees on our property:) Any other color combo ideas?

Sigrid, could you provide some pictures of the posts and shingles you are referring too?

The pics you posted are the front and the back additions which look like 2 completely differnt homes IMO. So can we see pics of the house as it is now both front and back.

Here is the existing rear. The initial plan was bungalow in the front with a more modern additon in the back.

This is not your existing home it’s a rendering. Take a picture of your house.

Who is doing the design, you are your architect?

If you like MCM, then why doesn't the concept look MCM?

In fairness to my architect I’ve been wavering between MCM and bungalow so I think he is trying to please me. I think that is why I’m in this situation 😅

Thanks for the rel pics so much better . For me MCM is my fave the homes are ell thought out , very simple in structure and very liveable . I just moved form a large MCM home that I loved but the property and the home too much to take care of properly. We then moved here to a wonderful MCM that has been totally renovated very close to the same style we had before . It is again very liveable even now when I am sadly on my own. My advice go MCM for sure . I would use this for insiration since what you are planning is huge rework
