curb appeal ideas - with vinyl siding

last month

Hi, our house needs curb appeal. I need help - I don't have the "creative" gene. Husband will not splurge on LP, so vinyl will be used. I'm thinking shakes on large peak, exterior casing around the two front windows and entry door. Due to heavy sun on south side (back of house), we plan to stick with lighter colors - thinking certainteed Savannah Wicker, Natural Clay, Herringbone. We will be getting new windows, too. Want to go with a timeless, classic look. Not modern farmhouse.

I actually think the house itself is a very neutral starting point and you just need to add colour in your landscaping, lighting, what’s on the front porch and possibly front door.

Is anything wrong with what's there now -- you just want to change the look?

nothing is wrong, just blah in appearance. This is my image from google earth and you can't tell, but there are 3 shrubs in the front that are now bigger ;) I find the house to be dark and now that we need new windows, considering what color we should go with and the way we want the windows done (with nailing fin and not "replacement"), we need to take off the siding and considering changing up the color if we're going this far ;)

It's very nice now and I don't understand why windows can't be updated without changing the siding.

Do you need storm doors under a covered porch? I would remove those so the front door is visible, it would greatly improve to the appearance. Then perhaps paint the door a bright color as a focal point.

Bright flowers in hanging baskets under the eaves and on each side of the walkway. Simple changes with pops of color makes a big difference.

    Tracey Floyd exactly!

the siding looks great as is, just needs some decorative items to enhance what you already have. I especially like the natural beam type trim boards above the garage door. I'd lighten the front door color, or even add a distinct pop of color for the front door, Cobalt blue would be my choice.

Vinyl Board and Batten siding, NOT shakes. Your home is contemporary.

What about something like this? This is not Certainteed but Cypress and Desert Tan are close.

I see no point in this added expense for really no reason . First get different garage doors with windows , a new front door in a color add some colorful landscping and some great lighting in the porch and if it has stay on all the time so be it. I have redone windows without having to remove siding so not sure what thta is all about. What is the siding now ? If paintable and in good shape paint it . NO SHAKE siding ever on that house .Some bright colored chairs on thta porch , so many things to do thta will cost little compared to residing IMO and for sure not vinyl

You cant tell in the picture, but the vinyl siding has been painted by the manufacturer. you are correct that we could opt to go with replacement (pocket) windows and not have siding removed, but several reasons we do not want replacement windows. We prefer to have new construction windows that required removing the siding to fully remove the old windows and to properly install new ones. when taking off the siding, we anticipate the paint might peel or whatever and would need replacing. Several homes on our block have vinyl shakes on peaks, stone, and vinyl sidng combinations and just tryinng to get our home to fit the block.

White or beige frames (avoid black or very dark—those lean modern) with the same trim or 1-2 tone lighter body color
